Having castrol colours on the Zakspeed kit makes all the difference, don't it? But both cars are individual because of it, and will not be seen as two of the same if you know what I mean. Nice!

There's another set of arches that I have seen, similar at the front to yours, but the rears have a lip that comes out at the wheel, are they Zakspeed or something else

Edit:- Just noticed the last picture above....thats what I mean

    Re: Mk1 V8 rebuild

[Brought in from Old School Banter thread]

Progress is a little slow at the moment as I'm working away but I went down to the unit yesterday just to do a couple of bits & pieces

Just thought this was a good shot

Popped the carbon door cards on (nice one Al ) - need a little adjustment but look awesome

The dash is just about done - Ken spent about 3 hours integrating the V8 rev counter when he put it in

There's a ProAlloy console going in but I'll have to customise it as if it's attached to the dash you can't reach any switches when your strapped in It will probably sit about here - see pic below - with a tunnel behind it to hide all of the wiring

and finally added some bling to the engine bay

There's a full set of brand new rubbers on the way and the car should be getting painted up in it's Castrol colours in the next couple of weeks or so.

    Re: Mk1 V8 rebuild

grabbed a quick hour down at the unit this morning

Popped the guages out of their original mount, sited, drilled and fitted the console so that I'll be able to reach all of the switches when strapped in

Also took a short vid clip, on the camcorder rather than the phone, so you can properly appreciate the noise

I had intended to take the car out but it was persisting down again

It was another nice morning so I took the car out to put some more miles on - ended up at the beach

I'm under strict instructions from Ken to keep it under 3,500 rpm until it's run in so here's me at just under 3,500 in fifth (on a private road of course)

The speedo reads high but I'll tell you this there were a few folk on this private road and no one was passing me

However, I think it's more like 90 - 95. Next time I'll take my GPS and see what TomTom says.

    It's running a standard Atlas so I assume 3.09

    Luds

I dug out a gear calc programme and these are the numbers - the power band on the cam tops at 6,500 but the limiter is 7,000 so in theory....

With the 16" rims the theoretical top speed hits 201 but in real life though I doubt it'll get anywhere near 180 - maybe 150 - 160??.

Smiffy was running about 400bhp to hit 170 and I've not got that power.

I've attached the Gear Calc programme in case anyone else wants to graph their car

a little discrepency tho above you say you 16inch rims
but you have only entered as 13 inch and the overall diameter will be more than 20.97

in 16 inch tyres you are going to need a profile of around 20 in a 225 wide tyre to get that size

dont think they make a 20

I have a set of 16's to go on but I was out with the 13's on yesterday so that's what I used for the figures (diameter and circ figures are given when you enter the tyre size)

The 16's are running approx 275/35's (I think as they are slicks and I'm not 100% sure how the sizes translate) and these are the numbers using those - as I say though I doubt I'll get anywhere near them

Still not quite there - the car was all in primer on Saturday and we were hoping to top coat later that day but then the primer reacted (and then we were at the bike show all day Sunday)

Anyway, it's all sorted now and ready for the final wet flat so fingers crossed it'll be finished this weekend.

Have heard bad things about wet flatting. Some people dry flat and something an american friend of the family said for his chevy nova hes doing was that his sprayer mate told him to flat using solvent so it evaporates off and doesnt soak into the primer. Im guessing he means to use panel wipe?

Anyways its looking good, getting closer and closer now
