Lsd noisy can you give me some info

Hi basically just bought a brand new lsd set up for fast road it's a 3j driveline Salisbury been set up for fast road. I have just put it in and it's fine at coasting but when you go slow or go round a corner it's well noisy. I'm thinking it has to bed in and the oil to get round is what the noise is that's what I'm hoping anyway

As far as I am aware the 3j is a plated diff and they all do this cornering at low speed, if you want quiet then the quaife atb is the one to go for but there are down sides in other respects.

No nothing on overun only went round the corner and heard it and bought it back just in case I did any damage. Was a bit low on oil as well cause I put a litre in and thought that be okay but then it took another 300ml before it came out of the fill up plug and that was on a level surface

Silly question, you did used the right oil for the lsd, they do not use the same oil as an open diff.

Plated diffs are normally noisey but it depends on how the diff is set up how noisey. Do around 500/1000miles and drop the oil. If your running an atlas take the back cover off and really clean out the diff housing. It should bed in and be a bit quieter after that then. Also castrol b373 is the proper oil for the job.

I had this with my Tran-x plated diff, I did some figure 8s for 20mins and then changed the oil and added some redline friction modifier, been quiet since and locks up a treat.

All plate diffs make some noise, at least my tran-x did, it was really noticeable when going slow or parking. Its part of the escort experience!

Re: Lsd noisy can you give me some info

Is your lsd better now? Just googled this problem because I have the same issue, I can hear the car the other side of the industrial estate as the grinding noise is that loud. Sounds terrible, again checked everything and even changed the wheel bearings as a matter of course. Someone has said that there isn’t any oil getting in between the plates, from new they have wd40 or similar on them, so when you fit the diff is takes a while for the proper oil to get between the plates. That’s what we’re hoping because is sounds horrendous, like a chalkboard scratch combined with a metal on metal noise.

    Thanks
    Kris
