    2002 zetec s into a RWD

hey so i have a 2002 zetec s (blown engine) that i would like to make into a RWD. i see there are threads for a older fiesta but i couldnt find one for this year. is it possible to do. if so what kind of things will i need. i was alot saying about type 9 gearbox and changing water pumps but do i have to do that to this one. i will be aiming to put in a 2l zetec engine in and dont mind spending a bit of time doing so. i have a small ish garage and plenty space to work with. any comments are good even if your saying im wasting time and have to cut out more car than it worth. idelaly i want it easy but i no there will be some complications.

    thanks for reading

RWD is great! but there's nothing easy about a conversion like this. You'll be taking one car and making it to something completely different. If you are confident of you cutting and fabricating skills go for it, but it won't be easy!

I would start by stripping the car and bracing it. Remove the rear suspension exhaust etc. Get your live axel and wheels and mock in place. Assuming you are using a 4 link set up cut the floor accordingly. You may need to cut for diff clearance too. Remove the engine, mock up new zetec and type 9 box in lengthways orientation cutting bulkhead and gearbox tunnel where required. Fabricate your own engine and gear box mounts. I'd use the Escort mounts from Retro Ford as a starting point. Cut and fabricate a tunnel for your transmission, then fabricate new exhaust.

That's the basics, but there will be a ton of stuff that I've missed.

Cheers mate I am a mechanic and got cutters and welders and bits. By 4 link set up your referring to the prop shaft I take it ? I no its not going o be easy but whatever is already out there to save me fabricating parts would help. I'm gonna have to move the tank to won't I. Possibly boot it so its out the way. Do the escort mounts work for a zetec? And any place recommend to get a type 9 box from

    Hi domz.
I'm doing such a conversation on my mk6 fiesta. Just buying bits at mo. Running sierra cosworth rear end . Mazda rx6 gearbox and 2.o zetec on bike carbs. I'm a professional welder / fabricator my trade. And have done rwd before. BUT BEWARE it's a lot of work.

4 link reference is for rear axle where it fits to body. I'm running sierra so I can keep rear seats. 4 link no seats. Or u got to modify seat Base as well. Hope this helps

That's a nice little fiesta he's got there. I'm Defo going to rwd it just got to decide what engine and box to use and I need to source parts clean and treat them and get sprayed so it's all nice and fresh. Aiming to basically take everything out and start off with bare shell on a spit and go from there. ;-)

    Thanks dome.
I'm still sourcing parts. At mo
Getting um blasted in work then giving um coat of zinc primer to keep them nice before the conversion starts, use them to mock up everything, then they all gona be painted up before finally fitting. Happy hunting for bits. 😆
