Round the back.
Chassis missing it’s end
And then not
Back edge of the boot floor is a bit frilly, so time to make s new bit.
And welded in.
Chassis end plates.
Lower rear panel ready to weld.
Last few holes
Does my bumper look big in this.
Looking good 👍 keep plodding!!
I completely stripped my mk1, then had it sandblasted to see what we had. Initially thought the shell was pretty good and we could replace steel as we went. How wrong was I!! Plate after plate after patch etc etc..
Took 6 years of weekends but now have a really strong shell, well protected that should last for a good few years.
This RS is going to be sweet....

Thanks for the encouragement
I will keep plodding on in the same fashion, until I run out of holes to fix
That's the plan... then put it all back together... bingo!!
If only it was that simple 😥

Work continues, slowly
Here’s the axle, not looking too good
Abit of rust treatment
Making one good axle case from 2 dodgy ones.
And some satin black
RS cross member repairs, a bit rusty and battered.
Replacing the base plate
New strengthener welded in
Back on the shell it’s only been a year since I touched it :0
Building up an RS inner wing.
No rush :-) and smiled at the comment where you hadn’t touched the shell for a year and glad it’s not just me as it’s been over 4 years since it was first painted and still not back together again
Doing well and keep at it
Thanks Donnie, time flys and all that
Time for some front end deconstruction
For some reason this has gone upside down.
New inner wing trial fitted
all the work pays off eventually m8 keep the pics coming
MY MK1 ESCORT (Now turbo'd)
Trial fitting all the panels to make sure it all fits over the new inner wing which is also temporarily attached, before stripping more metal off
Front inner panel removed for repairs, passenger side chassis leg is still good, but drivers side needs replacing
Cracking project, will be worth all the hard work once completed 👍

Thanks for your comments
Front inner panel revival.
Inner wing on
A second hand front chassis leg from Escort-tech
Cleaned up well, I don’t know where in the world it came from, but they liked under seal
Coming on a treat
Bulkhead repair completed
Looking good now Wish I hadn't sold her now as I have 12 bloody weeks in isolation.
A new leg.
Second inner wing trial fitted
A bit of wheel polishing. I can work from home
More cleaning of parts
Top work matey, keep going
Second inner wing trial fitted
And panelled up again
Need to retrieve the inner wing strengtheners
Shouldn’t be to difficult with non-stick welding :0
And built up
And some parts cleaned up and bagged
Or bought
Sorry about the pics, they appear the right way around on my phone, until I upload them
More welding
Front end finally coming back together
Front panel fitted
Bottom edge of front panel notched out for nose cone bottom mount
Slam panel repairs
Windscreen removed to reveal more rot
Chasing the rot away
Heater bubble off
Back to upper bulkhead fixing
I’m not bored of welding and grinding, I’ve just gone in to a trance
Fantastic work. Great progress in short time! Thumps up!
Back to it
Nose cone mounting bits revived, derusted, new studs welded on.
On to the flitches. Here’s an old one to copy.
Looks the same to me.
And another.
Sill time. Some small repairs, the other sill is being replaced, I’m waiting on one from Expressed Steel, the Magnum ones aren’t the right shape.
I tell you what, why don’t we drill holes in a brand new car in the name of rust prevention, when you only need to remove one piece of trim to get in there
On to this area
A new sill closing panel repair made
But first the floor needs a bit of attention
And we need a new one of these widgets
Getting stronger
Going to be a nice one, really like youre work
Some excellent work going here....and great that you are able to cut out rusted areas/sections only rather than complete panels......PS we getting a YouTube update as well??
Thanks mrmk2 and rustyshell
I know that now so many panels are available it’s become the thing to replace them all complete. I like to keep as much of the original as possible. Plus this way is within budget
Yes, I’m still on with the YouTube updates. They’re just these pics rehashed in iMovie on my phone with a little bit of video thrown in.
Brilliant work going on here.... just cutting out and replacing the bad bits. Every bit done is a bit less to do 👌👍

Looks great Merp0
What are you treating/painting the panels with to stop them
Rusting?

Coming on and cracking job, wee fiddly bits like jacking points takes ages but satisfying once done

Im on doing the same bits on my old yoke. This thread is a good guide on how to do it properly.

Not much welding going on here at the moment, but I’ve started on the engine, the odometer shows 70k miles, I’ve found nothing to suggest this is incorrect yet, so it’s time to have a look in the guts of the machine.
Engine and gearbox as they have been for many months on the shed floor
Your taxi awaits, a real load lugger
Taking the pinto home so I can do a little work on it when time allows.
Sump off time
Sump and pick up a bit sludgy
But journals and bearings show little wear
Bores have a little wear at the top, a few scores and a little corrosion, but not looking disastrous
After honing, a little bit of wear is still there. I have no way to measure this wear, so plan on fitting the piston rings back in the bore and measuring the ring gap above and on the wear to see if there is a significant difference, we’ll see
And more rust killing
More work soon, I hope
