Right folks, I'm just putting a list together of all those that helped out on the Esme project whether it was parts supply etc or assistance over the weekend. If you can put your real name, TS name and a quick comment saying breifly what your involvment was and your thoughts now its all done

    Re: Overhaulin Crew

    Real name Dave Roberts
Supplied screen seals and trim, plus a little of the fund.
Involvement was scrubbing lots of bits with a wire brush.
Tea and coffee making for the first day, sweeping up and standing on Gary's torch (not really Gary, I was very careful)
    Generally mucking in throughout.
Bringing the bonnet back from paint was the worst. I had to travel at 53mph all the way to avoid overtaking or being overtaken by lorries
I was convinced it was going to blow off my pickup on the motorway!
Working amongst all those people was fantastic. An extreme amount of effort and hard work put into it, just for the fun of it as far as I could see.
No egos, no bickering, no arguing and no sleep.
I'm not able to put into words what was felt during and after because it was more than that. Some of the words that do come into my head are magical, emotional, rewarding, comeradeship (sp?), WOW, fantastic, awesome and tired.
It was an adventure, as a group we did something that was impossible. I was so proud to be able to say I was part of it, and still find myself chuckling to myself.

    Re: Overhaulin Crew

    Gary Martin of Retromotorsports Ltd

    workshop space and facilities
    fabrication and restoration, general build.

A full 4 days of fun, fun is the right word, there where jokes aplenty, funny but safe mishaps (using Matt as kitty litter etc) constantly losing my hammers and having 12 people all hold up a hammer and saying " this one" with me saying " no not that one!... the bigger one"
watching a group of people all gel into one unit was one of the most special moments for me. Dirty, tired and frustrated at times but still going on past the night and into the dawn. Even when things where going pearshaped the team just carried on.. solutions found and implemented.

At the end... when Nickiy walked in, the look on her face once she relised the car infront of her was Esme was priceless, but also the look on the team stood behind the car, beaming smiles and a few tears making clean lines on grubby faces. That is an image that will be with me for my life.

My thanks go to all the Turbosport members, because without those, all of them, there would be no Turbosport, and no Overhauling. So allthough we as the team are getting the pats on the back, its to all of you on the forum that I applaud,

    Well Done Turbosport

    Re: Overhaulin Crew

    Rob Doyle

I was in on it from the start, as Clint and I collected the doner Sierra from a very strange man about 6 weeks before the project started. He was so strange I fell over twice running to my van to get away from him

I had a few bits to give to the project which were : axle casing, differential and halfshafts. As time went on and the need for more parts became apparent I gave ; Ignition leads, thermostat, radiator cap, brake pipes and the fuel pipe, along with storage of the doner car (I've still got it BTW )

Clint and myself started the stripdown of the Sierra, and my mate Mad Jon along with Altay (TurboTurk) helped me to remove the engine and transmission from the car.

Sadly I had to work for 3 of the 4 days of the project so I couldn't spend as much time on it as I'd wanted to, but even so I did a little bit, built up a strut, the rear brakes and fitted the rear wheel bearings, made most of the brake pipes and swept the floor (a lot) When the headlamp got broken I crept round to Nickiys' house to "steal" another one

The project drew me in so completely during the third day that until I was told it was 3am on Monday moring I had no idea of the time

The whole project was an amazing experience, and I have to give massive kudos to Clint, who was the driving force behind it all, when he told me what he planned to do I knew it would be a wonderful success, and thanks to his planning and leadership it was better than I could have imagined, the whole team both at Garys' and at Sams' workshops were fantastic, and I couldn't have wished to have worked with a better bunch of people.

To see Nickiys' face on the Monday evening topped off a fantastic time, that I will never forget.

Jon Hollis of Arrow Autoparts, Hutton (01277 204404)

Jon very kindly donated the following parts :

Drums, shoes, shoe fitting kit, handbrake cable, rear wheel cylinders, and wheel bearings all round, along with some nice smooth hammerite to paint the drums and backplates with.

Jon offered to help after I told him what we were planning to do. I did not solicit his sponsorship ; he gave it gladly, and made a special effort to make sure we had all the parts we needed

minor contributions of an oil cooler for the gearbox and talking adrian flux into sponsering some of the insurance cost.

the HARD work was keeping her happy the weekend she didn't have her car you lot had the easy jobs (i'm JOKING!!!)

delivered a few of Nics own parts supply like the boot lid and dash/clocks and spent a couple of weeks worrying she was gonna ask where they had gone! lol

sneaked a door out the back garden at midnight on sunday and delivered it, and some headlights out of the shed monday evening while Nic was in the bath.

    Matthew Beakhust (Mk2Matt)

Helped with rubbing down panels etc on the second day
At Gary's workshop on the final two days generally helping where I could and when I was needed.

I really enjoyed being part of the TurboSport Overhaulin' experience and am very proud to say I took part and was there. Everyone worked together so well, despite the pressure and lack of sleep!

A massive thank you should be given to everyone involved, especialy Clint, who without him, none of this would have happened.

Was all worth it to see Nicky's face and reaction to us unveiling the car to her.

    Well done to all

    Richard Chambers

Managed to blag time off work so pretty much lived at Gary's workshop for the four days. Was tea/coffee boy until I picked up iccle Lisa when I was demoted to birds nest/wiring man Did lots of stripping down stuff, a bit of rubbing down and cleaning, had a nightmare trying to wire in the radio/alarm/ecu on about 8 hours sleep over the whole four days . Oh and I donated a nice shiny new rad which I ended up paying for as my blagging skills aren't as honed as Clints!

Had one of the most amazing weekends of my life working with great mates, and I've probably never worked so hard! I felt so proud to be a part of this when the shutters opened, the band started to play and Nickiy saw her Esme again . I have so many memories and stories from the weekend I'm sure I'll be boring my grankids with in years and years to come

She's built like a Steakhouse, but handles like a Bistro

    Matt Little
Bit towards the fund and the strut brace.
Day 1: stripper and moper up
Day 2: general zombie and good for nothing
Day 3: lesser tramp bars(they fit so well )and door man
Day 4: dave roberts side kick and andy pipes aprentice

Unbeleavable how so many people could work together with no predudice(sp?) and gel like a team.
If we went on scrapheap challenge we would kick ass
Would do it all again next weekend if asked.
And to see nickiy's face this weekend at f/f a week after seing esme for the first time just bought back to me how much you can love a car and how much esme is/will be appreciated

Didnt do a very good job did ya?

Anyhow I see Marts part in this as being a little more significant...it was him who persuaded me to go Old school after my first car went off to the scrappy and him who found Esme for me and persuaded me to join Turbosport
I fell in love with her after my first drive, yes she was smelly and noisy but she also had a character all of her own, over time shes had various minor problems an engine and a couple of gearboxes and a little help from her Turbosport friends has always seen her back on the road,I guess the defining moment that I knew that I would never give her up was when I bought a capri (my dream car) as a donar vehicle for some parts and it turned up in fantastic condition I had to make a decision whether to break the capri for parts for Esme or keep the capri, turns out I didnt need to think twice about it, Esme won hands down
The past few months she has been going down hill fast ,I had a wet arse all through the winter and an inch deep puddle on the drivers side floor, she was leaking like a sieve, add to that some random brakes and a tendency to drive slalom style on a straight road and take off competley if she hit a hole and things wern't looking good,it was becoming increasingly difficult for me to keep her on the road (literally) and what had begun as slight rust spots on her wings were rapidly becoming major eyesores, she was falling apart in front of my eyes (and I had no idea how bad things really were )
Despite some tinkering she was also very low on power so Clint offered to have her one weekend to see if he could help you all know what happened next

I loved my old Esme ,I would often see people admiring her in the car park at work and would want to run out and shouts "shes mine" just because she made me proud Now I have a car that hopefully the whole of Turbosport can be proud of ,shes stunning to look at and drives like a dream. All this was achieved by a few people and some generous sponsors in a weekend but was only ever made possible because of this forum, everyone who contributes to the forum whether its by posting jokes, giving advice or arguing their point gives something to the forum and makes it the kind of place where you can achieve the impossible. There is always someone there to offer advice or encouragement or tell you your being a muppet
So thankyou to Clint and Sharon for Turbosport,Thankyou to the sponsors for their generosity,Thanks, hugs and kisses to the Overhaulin crew and of course Thankyou to all the Turbosporters out there ,some of you are friends, some i will never meet, but you all make this a great place to be

    Mark Barnes
chipped in some cash for the halfords run on Sunday.
Helped with the rubbing down at B&P Saturday
then general stuff on Sunday like operating the hair trigger engine hoist (very anxiously around all the fresh paint!) , cleaning up the strut brace, fitting some of the suspension/steering and whatever else I could do ... oh, and polishing faster than matt and dave apparently.

I'm just really proud to have been a small part of overhaulin. As has been said it was great with everybody working and just getting stuck in and no bitching or complaining. it really does show what you can achieve with a great bunch of people and phenomenal amount of work in a very short space of time! I would've loved to be there Monday night for the unveiling but unfortunately work got in the way!

    Glyn Morgan

Sunday/Monday, not sure if there was one of those night things in the middle, if there was I ether missed it or it didn’t last long enough….

    Helped with the engine/gearbox fitting

Chipped in on the Halfords run (still say we should have bought a roof aerial )

Built up the other strut, wheel bearings, brakes etc

Paneled up the car, wings, doors, bonnet, boot etc, reconned and fitted the lights, indicators, bumpers etc

Reconned the speedo etc and clocked it (don’t tell the fuzz pray: )

Being butt of "cruel" joke to help boost troops moral

General extra pair of hands, cleaner upper where req

My proudest acheivement being knocking one of the front lights off the top off the 4 poster at the 11th hour (for future ref they don’t bounce !)

In conclusion I actually enjoyed myself ! Really Enjoyed meeting other TS members I hadnt met before and was really impressed that we all seemed to gel as a team without any hassle in what had the possibilites of being a stressfull enviroment and I think acheiving a "little bit of magic" that if I was the sort of person who admits to getting emotional would admit too when Esme was unvieled to Nickiy

    Next.................

All I got for christmas was a sweater, I really wanted a moaner or a screamer......

I'm not sure if I should post here... but I will, feel free to remove at will.

    Grant Rafter

I wasn't massively involved but I drove a (very hungover) Matt over on the saturday and we got involved in the panelwork prep as I've done a fair bit at my dad's bodyshop before. I wish I could have helped more; I went home yellow from head to foot though, so hopefully that says it all.

I only wish I could have seen the end result and the look on Nickiy's face, I'll settle for having given in some small way to one of the most extraordinary projects I've ever seen undertaken by any online community to date.

Best bit in my limited view of the weekend was rich's portion of chips ending up all over the mx-5's floor and him still eating them cos he was so hungry...

Only spent half a day there on the last day apart from bringing the trailer up on the first day. Wish I could have helped more really.

Was mainly helping the 2 Matts and Rich with what they were doing as they seamed to know what was going on
Oh and fitted the front spoiler and front bumper. So not much really

Andy Pipe did quite a lot of the electrical testing, and some of the wiring.
I also know that Jon and Steve Pipe went to get the tyres fitted and picked up the steel needed for repairs

    Re: Overhaulin Crew

Came up on friday evening and made sure everyone that wanted got feed.
Spent saturday running 351 escort around for Filming.
Sunday was the Panel delivery girl going between paint shop and Retro's a couple of times and sort out food for those that missed the first run.
Monday evening found bits of light fittings on floor after light incident and was there for the grand reveal.

Son Michael got his hands dirty at Paint shop on saturday helping to rub down the body and on Monday was at retros helping where he could.

Glad to be able to help out getting a warm feeling as I'm typing this.

    Re: Overhaulin Crew

Just a bit of cash to help out from me

Wish I could've got down to help but just had too much on & a bit too far for the little bit of spare time I could've found. Even reading through this thread is making me smile ...all the comments from people. It must've been one hell of a cracking weekend. Nickiy's post is a great read & I thnk Gary summed it up using the word 'Fun'

    parts supplied

    calipers
    pads
    discs
    master cylinder
    blood
    sweat
    lots of lost skin

day 1,2 - engine, gearbox, suspension, steering out and dropping the rad contents on matt , grinding engine bay just to pee everyone off with the noise for 4+ hours. next few hours were helping out where it was needed, we loaded it on the trailer at about 6am, then off home at 9 for shower and eventually pub.

day 3 - reverse of day 1 without the grinding , then general help with other parts that needed asembling, axle etc

day 4 - 3 hours sleep in garys office ,and several coffee's later fitted the exhaust that gary adapted and then fuel lines with help rest is a blur

    day 5 - dont ask

special thanks to the coffee and redbull girl ( icclelisa ) and julie for dinner friday night, it was a great atmosphere to work in with a great bunch of guys made some good friends, was a long but rewarding weekend which i was glad to be part of would do it again in a few years
