1973 mk1 escort
1982 Toyota corolla ke70
1988 mk4 escort
yeah good engines but mega bucks to rebuild or gets parts for. If its cheap and in good nick might be worth it otherwise there are loads of modern 16v engines to choose from now.
She's built like a Steakhouse, but handles like a Bistro
i've had lots of abarth twin cams , very good and strong motors , they don't break and are good with light mods but if you want 180+ bhp they cost lots to modify . They fit nice in anglias for example and are better than a standard pinto will be . The only thing is if you tune a pinto nothing will touch it for the money , thats why it's still the no1 choice
So the trusty ole Pinto wins again?

unless you want to go round corners. The pinto will bugger up the handling of a 105e even more than an escort

the fiat twin cam is an excellent engine, lighter and shorter than a pinto, its very strong with an excellent cylinderhead, on 45's a good one should give 130bhp in 2.0 form that is, to make one really quick you just need cams, which is where it all goes pair shaped, cams are very expensive, verniers aren't cheap and cam carriers need careful machining none of which you will pick up cheaply off ebay

there it is.
just on the hunt for a running gear for my mk1 & am keeping all options open atm
get an abarth strada 130tc engine , these have a bigger valve head and good standard cams and make 130 bhp and 130 ibls feet of torque straight out the box . I just rejetted the standard 40's , fitted an avanti comp exhaust and removed the airbox and they made a easy 145 bhp but sounded like 200bhp and they flew !!!! barrrrrrrrp barrrrrp barrrrrrp .....
here's some pics from back in the day
Just been out walking the dog and could here for miles what sounded like a 5 cylinder Audi blasting about. It was going for ages up and down the A22 and A26. Then it drove through the village a bright yellow fiat Brava(Bravo) with a bloody great drain pipe out the back. Sounded lovely. Looked alright as well.
I nearly bought a 131 sport from Ireland earlier this year after going to the historic motorsport show and seeing the 131 abarths on show. I just couldn't bring myself to tell the owner that I wanted to strip it to get an abarth kit fitted as it was absolutly pristine after a 4yr restoration so left it alone.
what like this one phil , ooooooh yes lets do it !!!!
arrh yes thats more like it
Why did you have to post that picture. The wet dreams are gonna come back. I keep looking at the 131 sites for an old one that's suitable for repair. Haven't seen any yet, but having no money and a crusty mk1 to repair it's probably a good thing.
they are the bollox phil , i know a fella selling a pucker red one for £12,000 so lets rob a bank !!!!!! ....... and don't forget these things piss all over escorts

No More Pleeaassee
so are these engines quicker/better then the pinto?
not really just different!
ultimatly a pinto will give as much power, the fiat is stronger out the box and more powerfull, but costs lots to break the 140 bhp mark, although once your buying cams etc you can get much more power without a huge extra expenise,
the fiat is lighter and shorter, so would be worth considering in an application where a pinto is too large/heavy but personally i wouldn't bother fitting one in say an escort where the pinto works well.
the 131 abarth rally 2 litre 16v engine is unique to this rare rally special model and is fiats B.D.A. basher . It's a cracker of a motor and costs BIG BUCKS !!! The normal 131 2 litre 8v engine is not the same , a bit like comparing a pinto to a B.D.A.
I've lost me pictures of the historic motorsport show. Where's me abarth?
alright then here's some more 131 abarth rally pics
That's just cruel Gaz. I had some cracking photos of Waldegards Fiat this year. Bugger Bugger Bugger. Bloody kids (I always blame it on them).
love the blue one
I agree the blue one's my fav. I think the back end looks better with the later rear light cluster, but that's just being picky.
Would love to build a rhd lookalike with something really pokey underneath the bonnet.
Not my pics but the same car I think
sweet pics mate , the blue one in my pics was on ebay in italy a few months back . I was going to buy it when i found out i was getting married !!!! .........
Good grounds for a divorce.
