    Pinto bike carbs

Hi all just got myself a cam for the pinto engine and I'm looking into a bike carb set up to replace the twin 40s, the more I read the more I'm confused.
some say 600cbr carbs are good for 170bhp some disagree and say use r1 or zx9r carbs, I've got the chance for some cbr600 that's why I ask I think they are 34mm. Will I be wasting my time and should I go straight for bigger carbs from a r1 for example.

Anybody had experience of using thesse or knowledge I would be very grateful

    thanks lee

No experience but common sense - will DCOE 40's with 34mm chokes make 170hp? If so then its possible as bike carbs tend to be slightly more effecient in fuel delivery. I'd personally say as the CBR600 makes 115-120hp it would appear over-carb'd but the 600 is reving to 14-15,000 rpm so moving shed loads of air, so I think on a 2.0L pinto the 900 carbs would be better suited.

    Thanks for the reply.
It's a shame but I think you are right looks like I'm going to have to pay the premium for r1 or similar carbs, wish I'd have bought some a while back there's no bargains on these anymore.

    Wow some good info there.

So in a nutshell it all depends on the engine specs as to what carb works best, ideally I should fit the cbr 600 with a 34mm choke and progressively fit a bigger carb and have it rolling roaded to see if there's any improvements?

    Thanks for that
