    Loom questions

    Hi all
i have a new loom for my mk2 cosworth that came with the donor car and I'm just on with wiring in to mine .
Couple of questions for you ? Does the octane plug need to be earthed ? And what does it actually do
also the diagnostic plug wire colours differ from the original ford one , anyone know which goes where ? And Is it ok to wire the gunsun code reader into the diag plug as a permanent fixture

    Thanks in advance paul

    Re: Loom questions

earthing octane wires retards timing for lower octane fuels, if you want performance dont earth them and feed it the best fuel

    Re: Loom questions

    Hi Paul,

what ECU do you have for the Cosworth engine?
As the code-reader only supports EECIV systems.
If you are using good fuel then you don't need the octane wires/plug.
Via wire-loops you can connect the orange and/or pink wire to the brown wire (earth).

    Regards, Leon.

    Re: Loom questions

Thanks for replys lads so I can forget the octane plug altogether ,
I don't know for sure which ECU it is ? It has level 6 written on it and stage 1 chip ? The gunson reader says it does early Cosworths with 5 pins but my loom has 3 and the reader has 3 even tho it says on it 5

I work in the trade and have a snap on scanner that does both 3 and 5 pin ones so it's not a problem !
I bought the gunson with the thought of leaving it as a permanent fixture
    Thanks again paul

    Re: Loom questions

    Hi,

that's an IAW Weber ECU. The codereader will not work with that ECU.

    Re: Loom questions

The Weber ECU is used on the Sierra Cosworth first without lambda/cat control later with.
Believe yours is an early version for 2WD engines without cat.

The Gunson reader is crap anyway !

    Some info here: http://rpm.planetaclix.pt/ecu/IAW.htm

    Re: Loom questions

    Paul,
double checked and both the early EECIV and Weber IAW systems use the slow blinking code method.
So that "reader" will do both systems.
It's just that the Weber ECU does not store faults so it has very limited use.
    Leon.

You don't happen to know which wires go where do you ? is it too obvious !
    Brown to brown
    Blue to blue
Which only leaves purple to green/yellow ?
    Cheers Paul
Ohh and going back to my original thought can I leave it connected permanently?

    Re: Loom questions

Did you buy the codereader at the same place as the loom?
    Then I would guess brown-brown, blue-blue and purple-green-yellow.
    Have you studied the manual?
The Gunson has one LED; when you connect it to the loom and turn on ignition it will start blinking after 45 seconds.
At the end of the fault-codes (if any) it will blink code 12.
Then it stops. Turn ignition off and all codes are gone.

I know ith the EECIV system there can be an erratic idle when reading codes, don't know if it is also the case with the Weber.

Thanks for reply Leon the loom came with the donor car ! I don't even know who's make it it ?
The gunson was a £20 eBay win ? Think I will sell it on and stick with the snap on verso from work !
    Thanks again Paul

no such thing as an octane sensor, you earth the plug to adjust the ecu map for lower octane fuels
