    track rod ends???

    Hi,

I tried to get some track rod ends for my Mk2 escort but couldn't seem to get the right ones from my local motor factors.

I tried ones from Mk1 and 2 escorts and ones from a capri. I think the Escort ones were the same as for a capri and they screwed onto my rack ok but were too big for the hub arm. The Mk1 Escort TRE's fitted the arm but not the rack ... ahhh!

I have what I think is a quick rack .. but i'm not 100% sure. My suspension is WC Bilsteins which I presume would be similar to a Capri's front set up - 2.8i disks and hubs etc.

Please help. I could drill the arms to fit the Mk2 Escort TRE's .. don't want to though

You probably need Green TRE from a Mk2 RS; they have metric rack thread and fit the bolt-on steering arms on the struts.

I thought it could be something like that. Cheers

Does anyone know if the the green TRE's are the same size as the standard MK2 Escort fitting on the ball joint end - where they fit into the steering arm?

Green TRE's have Mk2 thread (metric) on the rackside and have Mk1 type UNF tapers for the steering arm to fit in.
Normal TRE's are black but as said you need the special green ones.

You can get them from any decent motor factors mate...brands such as First Line or Quinton Hazell make the same fitment part as the genuine Ford green item, and are normally around £7 or £8 each instead of the £20+ you'll pay for the originals. Just make sure you ask for/receive Mk.2 RS2000/RS1800/Mexico as no other tre will suit your needs.

    Excellent

I have seen them TRE's from Ian Harwood's etc for £25 or somethin ridiculous. Are these the 'green' TRE's? Forgive me for what might be a stupid question, but why are they called 'green'?
