    Duratec MX5 gearbox confirmation

Well ... after a long time away from the escort i have finally moved house and have my own garage so i have the escort back and the project is under way again (if i can stop messing about buying land rovers)

Much of the useful info i picked up previously has been forgotten, i know that i wanted a mazda mx5 6 speed gearbox as it bolts straight up to the duratec but could anybody confirm if there is any specific type i need i.e a particular model or year? i just want to make sure i get it right first time as there not cheap.

Once i have one of these i can fit my new chassis rails and get the engine and box mocked up in the car

    Cheers, Steve

NC Mx5 is the donor but it will be at a 10deg angle when on. I believe there may be a new bell housing out to fix this. You could just go s5 rx7 with bell housing from Roger in Adelaide. Or use the search function as there are plenty of threads on this here.
    Good luck, and post pics

Thanks for the replies, i'll keep my eyes open for one.
I decided on the 6 speed as the gear ratios are supposed to be better, plus the bonus of it being stronger, although the 5 speed is far cheaper and lighter

Im glad you said that, it justifies the extra cost as opposed to just settling for a cheap 5 speed

its 06-14 mx5. The 6 speeds should be ok with up to about 350hp, more on the street. Around 350 they start to just become items you replace every few track days if you're fast on the track.
