Anybody know what thread the steering rack on a capri is, I know the mounting bolts and the rack arm lock nut its the rack its self.
Looks about 13/16 or 21mm with a fine thread.

Can anybody tell me the thread on the end of the anti roll bar (standard mk2 escort), the part that is bolted through the tca normally with a castle nut I believe? Also should the castle nut be secured with a split pin through the arb?

I'm sure I had a thread gauge on one once, metric and imperial, still couldn't get my head round it
i put nylocks on mine, if no-one has found out by the end of the weekend i can tell you the thread but i need to ask my old man as his the nutty bolt man so he will know as he supplied them

I measured the thread tonight and it appears to be 16mm x 1.5mm, so M16 fine? Does this sound about right?
i forgot to text the oldman i'll text him tomorrow if i think of it, that does sound about right though to what i can remember.

any one know the length, pitch, and tensile strength of the larger 17mm head bolts that holds the crown wheel on an l.s.d in an atlas?

doesn't mention whether they're the bigger head or not, non l.s.d's had a 15mm head while l.s.d's had a 17mm head, i've got the 15mm but not the 17 mm, just wondered what strength they needed to be

I would imagine they would be the same for a non-LSD diff, they can't be under any different stresses

it says 100 on the head which i assume would be a 10.0, i'm gonna measure the thread so i can find out what thread they are, also i reckon lsd bolts are longer as i measured today an open diff is 10 mm thick but l.s.d is 12 mm, so i'm loosing 2 mm of the bolt thread, so with the open diff bolts threw the lsd only about 2-3 mm of thread goes into the crownwheel where as it would be 4-5 mm with the open diff.
i went to burtons today too and they only sell the 15 mm head bolts, not the 17 mm ones.

either way i wernt happy with how far in the thread it went so i bought some of these http://www.gartrac.com/shop/atlas-ax...heel-bolt.html expensive i know for a set of 8 but if it saves the axle destroying itself i aint gonna moan

Anyone know the thread of the balance bar on a pedal box on the Mk1 (if that makes a difference) need one for a locknut to stop the adjuster coming undone.
cheers
Mk2 Escort steering column top nut anyone? I've read M16 with a 2mm pitch elsewhere but if someone could corroborate that I'd appreciate it.

I'm looking for the thread size for the bolts fixing the handbrake to the tunnel. Also looking for the threadsize of the small bolts that fix the ARB mounting bracket to the front lower crossmember
last 3 questions have already been answered in this thread if you look.
I found a question about the ARB front bolt but no answer and I can't see anything about the handbrake lever bolts.
If a 7/16" spanner fits it, it is 1/4" bolt
if a 1/2" spanner fits it, it is 5/16" bolt
If 9/16" spanner fits it, it is 3/8" bolt
If 5/8" spanner fits it, it is 7/16" bolt
If 3/4 spanner fits it, it is 1/2" bolt
If there are lots of close together threads it is UNF, (F stands for fine)
If there are not so many threads it is UNC (C stands for coarse)
A 13mm spanner is pretty much the same as 1/2"
A 16mm spanner is pretty much the same as 5/8"
A 19mm spanner is pretty much the same as 3/4"
Anything else and you are using the wrong spanner and deserve to have your nuts rounded off (IMO )
So, bolts that hold the handbrake on are going to be undone with either a 7/16" or 1/2" spanner (can't remember which) so from that you can work out the size of them.
By looking to see if the threads are fine or coarse you can figure out if they are UNF or UNC.
Without looking I would guess they are 5/16" UNC.
ARB is probably going to be 1/4" UNF, but that is just a guess. Using the above info you can figure it out easy enough for yourself if you look.

From memory the handbrake securing bolts are a 1/2" head

That's the problem starting with a bare shell, there weren't many bolts which is why I'm buying new ones. None of the bucket of bolts I picked up with the shell fit these captive nuts and the few others I've got are mainly cap head bolts hence why I was asking for some sizes.

Buy a few of the above sizes and work it out. It is easy, honest.
When I grow up I will have a MK1 Escort
I must be all growed up now then and paying for it!
Cheers Dave, I found a couple of more old bolts in the shed. They are 5/16 (1/2" Spanner) and fit the handbrake and front Anti Roll Bar mount holes. I'm not sure it they're UNF or UNC but will be getting a few new ones of various types for bolting up so will be able to tell then.

I looked but could not see the bolt size for the gearbox crossmember into the bottom of a Type 9 box??? Also, Mk1 Escort gearbox crossmember into chassis bolts?? Cheers

IIRC the gearbox to crossmember is M12 fine but I wouldn't want to bet my life on that...
I reckon the crossmember to body bolts are 5/16 unf
