    After seaching the forums for bolt sizes on my Escort, I thought it might be a good idea to put all the ones I found in one place so people can add to & use the info.

    ENGINE
    Crossflow
    Engine bolts (in block): 5/16 UNC.
    1300-1600 flywheel bolts: 3/8 UNF.
    Oil pressure take-off: 1/8 NPT for 681 blocks & 1/4 NPT for 691 and 711m.
    Thermostat Housing: 5/16 UNC 25mm long
    Inlet Manifold: 5/16 UNC 25mm long
    Exhaust Manifold: 5/16 UNC 25mm long
    Oil Pump: 5/16 UNC 25mm long
    Rear Crank Cover: 5/16 UNC 25mm long.
    Water pump x2: 1/4 UNC
    Water Pump x1 (alternator bracket one): 5/16 UNC 25mm long
    Sump bolts:
    Oil Breather Box:
    Distributor to block: all 1/2" long
    Front Timing Cover: all are 20mm apart from 1 which is 43mm long

    Pinto
    Pinto spark plug thread: M18x1.5.
    Pinto oil pressure switch: 1/4 NPT (pipe thread).
    Pinto alloy sump to engine bolts: M6x18
    Pinto alloy sump plug: M12x20.
    Pinto block drain: 3/8 NPT

    Gearbox & Bell housing
    RS alloy bellhousing to engine bolts: M10x1.5 (30mm long).
    Bellhousing to type 9 gearbox: M12 x 1.5 FINE

    AXLE & PROP
    Propshaft to Atlas/English axle bolts: M10x1.0mm pitch.
    Drum brakes to english axle Mk1: 7/16 UNF.
    Drum brakes to english axle Mk2: M12x1.5.
    Mk1 Axle U bolts: 7/16 UNF (20tpi)

    SUSPENSION, STEERING & BRAKES ETC
    Caliper to strut bolt (2.8i strut): 7/16 UNF.
    Disc to hub bolts 2.8/RS hubs: 3/8 UNC.

    Leaf spring (front): 7/16 UNC

    Mk2 Steering rack track rod end lock nuts: M14
    MK1 rack-to-crossmember bolts: 5/16 UNC (18tpi)

    Mk1 Escort wheel studs: 7/16 UNF.
    Mk2 Escort wheel studs: M12x1.5.
    Group 4 wheel studs: 1/2 UNF.
    Capri wheel nuts: M12x1.5mm

    BODY/MISC
    Escort seatbelt mounts: 7/16 UNF
    Cross member to body: 3/8 UNF
    Mk2 Escort - most bolts are M8 (ie bonnet, boot, hinges, etc)
    Large inner tank outlet 3/4 BSP on Mk1 and most probably Mk2
    MK1 rack-to-crossmember bolts: 5/16 UNC (18tpi)

    I think the pinto block drain is 3/8 NPT.

    Same as xflow engine mount bolts, i have a nice list of all the xflow engine bolts somewhere il dig it out

    Anyone know what size the bolts are that go through the front eye of a mk1/2 escort leaf spring?(m12 seems a bit slack)
    And what is the thread and size of the bolts that go through the chassis end of mk2 anti tramp bars? (aftermarket kit)

    Imperial, not metric.I might even have some new ones knocking about, pretty sure I have some good second hand ones.

    Think they are the big ones, rollcage bolt size!! is it m12? Although mine are tight in there so i dunno if they used shit nuts or something, i might run one down the bolt shop just incase they are UNC

    Dangerous, how come every bolt that ever gets referred to, you say it is rollcage bolt size?
    Who says what size bolt is in a rollcage?

    Thats my problem dave my brackets never came with bolts and like a fool i never checked before welding them in
    I tried an m12 in there and it feels tight and this is the last nut i want to wring off :cry:

    Exactly matt everyone knows they are 17mm

    And dave buy a new rollcage and see what bolts come with it Blue nylocks = metric, white = imperial therefore they are metric (theres the bolt again )

    And matt il try and run down the bolt shop tomorrow with my bracket i havnt fitted yet, for us and this thread thread

    does anyone know the bolt size that holds the arb mount onto the front cross member op amk1 escort. i've got the two that go through the chassis rail but i've fitted a new rad cross member and i can't seem to find any bolts to go into the captive nut inside the cross member ???

    Standard brake fitting size, but I can't remember if it is metric or imperial.
    I think the metric size is 10x1mm
