    DIY rollover jig

Does anybody have a rollover jig and fancy posting up some pictures or measurements,
I just cant justify buying one as i'm fairly handy with a welder and grinder.
The money saved could buy me my mx5 gearbox

If you have made one yourself do you have any advice?

    Cheers

I would have thought it would lift the bare shell, i wouldn't bolt bits on though such as engine and drive train

    Re: DIY rollover jig

i have climbed into the shell whenon the spit (not light) without issue. my spit mounted to the rear bumper holes which would be the weak point. the frames that are bolted to the car can easily be changed to pick up on suspension points instead to make it hold more weight.

Created my own gate-latch if that's what there called (a spring loaded bolt) and added it to the 'A' frame, you pull the bolt and start turning the handle, as soon as the next hole is reached it locks into place until the latch is pulled again.

Just about finished the first Frame, the vertical pole which slides up through the frame shifted slightly while welding it up so it isn't 100% vertical so i'll adjust this tomorrow, i may add a few braces in to strengthen it up although i don't think it needs them

    Re: DIY rollover jig

Be careful with locating like you have, your centre of gravity will be way out. Ideally you want to anchor to the shell as close as you can to the centre line, not sure with going around and under the front panel you'll make the shell very bottom heavy.
Most obvious location is through the bumper irons cut out in the front panel.

    Re: DIY rollover jig

The theory is that if the tube slides up through a slightly thicker tube on the 'A' frame then i should be able to get the centre of gravity spot on before drilling the bolt holes..... in theory anyway

To be honest, although i have lots of helpful pic's its trial and error until i get it right

Top marks for trying.. My biggest problem is somewhere proper
to work on my shell. Like you say it's all a bit of trial and error..

    Keep it up though...

If you can adjust your frame up or down on the A frame then you should be ok.

    Re: DIY rollover jig

Can I recommend adding some legs, fore and aft, on bottom of the A frame, even if only a foot either side; it will stop the A frame from wanting to rotate forwards or back, and will keep the loading vertical. Otherwise, if both ends are up, if you push the car from either the front or back, it will tip forward and crash through your back wall
