    Valve lift

    Efi head
    just checking valve lift on the exhaust with no springs just spring cup and colletts ant the underside of the spring cup hits the top of the iol seal at 10 mm ? How do you manage to fit a fr30 cam and get full lift ? Leave the stem seals out ? Cheers

    You machine the seat (base in head) of cast iron to have the correct installed valve spring height

    I think the OP is querying that there appears to be only / less than 10mm of potential valve lift before the spring retainer / collets hits the valve guide - nothing to do with installed spring heights

    are you using particularly tall valve stem seals or something? or very short valves? or has teh head been fitted with removable guides which are not fitted deep enough? as i cant recall having an issue until over 500 thou lift

    Katana , yes you are correct
    Its a standard efi head just removed from the block
    Std crank journals , std bores ,
    So probably never worked on
    As i said
    I took the valve springsout and just curious to see the max valve lift before the head has bigger valve and new K guides fitted
    How can Kent cams say a Fr30 needs no mods ?
    It will not work
    If the seats had been recut at some time there would be more lift ?

    Sussed it !
    The pressed steel top hat type seals probably Fords own only allow approx 10mm valve lift
    The Victor reinz type allow over 13mm before the collet retainer touches the valve seal
    Something else learnt through readind the excellent threads
    IE check,check and check again !

    good job, the pressed steel type are actually cvh not pinto, oe pinto ones were the middle one in the pic

    I said i didnt think the engine had been taken apart !
    Just goes to show that without the Grahams and RWD,s etc etc we,ed be bolloxed
    Why put cvh seals in a pinto ?
