Switches mk1 escort If anybody can help me.
So I need to add some switches to the mass off wires that once all had switches before I got the car. Going for and alloy switch plate so was going the toggle switch route as cheaper. What toggle switches do I need for wipers (2 speeds), headlights and hazards....there is also the heater(2 speed)
and heated rear window but won't be using them and the heater is actually coming out.
Is it just a simple on-off-on for wipers ? And what amp ?
and off-on-on for the headlights ? And what amp ?
the hazards I ain't got a clue ? Dose it need a switch that allows it to work when the ignition is off ?
and do I need to wire the other stuff up that I'm not using to make the stuff I am using to work ?

I've just rewired the wipers in my mk1 here, so I can tell you that no, it's not as simple as a on/off/on switch.
There are 4 terminals that control the speed and park setting of the mk1 2-speed wiper motor:
There are a multitude of wires, but those that control the speed/mode are (at least on mine):
brown (common earth)
green
red
blue (park)
These have the following combinations:
brown + green = low speed
brown + red = high speed
blue + green = park
The standard mk1 switch has blue + green connected at the 'off' position. This means you have +12v going to the wiper motor all of the time; the switch grounds either the green or red wires which activates the motor, otherwise the blue wire activates the park circuit which runs the motor until it resets back and then breaks the circuit again.
You'd need something more comprehensive than a single switch in order to retain self-park functionality. You could do it with two switches and a changeover relay though using a stalk would be easier in day to day use.
For the hazards, you need to use a permanent live feed, as it needs to work with the ignition off. You should be able to source that from the ignition barrel. Here's the best and easiest diagram I found in order to wire up hazards - the key thing is to have a double pole toggle switch for the hazard switch, then you don't have the problem of isolating the indicator circuits from each other and the hazard switch will activate both when pressed:
