Engines: Zetec / Duratec and Gearbox

    Hi

I´m building mk1 escort(asphalt: rally/track)and have some questions regarding the engine/gearbox/bellhousing, i havent decided which to choose from.

    The choices are:
    - Ford focus ST170 engine
    - Ford mondeo 2.0 Durate HE
    - Zetec black top 2.0
I was thinking about the ST170, because it has the biggest hp in the first place, the prices are almost the same to ST170 and Duratec HE (diference in 100€ plus for the ST170), since the cheapest is the Zetec black top (less 250€ from Durate HE).
My power range, i was thinking between 210hp min and 280hp max, to put that power down to the back wheels i have a atlas axle and a Zf 5 sp dog leg gearbox.

    So, the questions are:
    - Which bellhousing will fit best, regarding the €€€€€ (burton was one to fit but it isn´t cheap), i allready bought bellhousing for the ZF (came from a Maserati biturbo, fits perfectly), and was thinking buying another from ST170 / Duratec and then "glue" then together (cnc machine part to glue them). Will that work ok? or DISASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    - The best engine to suit that power band, considering that i´m not Bill Gates , and having in mind the also the reliability.

The 1st picture was when i bought the car, the other is how he is now , so a lot of tlc will be needed.

    Thanks to all

I have gone for the duratec HE, light and powerful, easily tuned and bolts straight up to an MX5 gearbox (although the gear stick sits at a 10 degree angle)

if you do a search on here then the information regarding the engines is available. if your needing to be asking the question about bellhousing mod then i would guess its best left alone.
there is a big difference between 210 and 280........................

its easy enough as all parts are available, as far as engine mounts and sump its the same as every blacktop / silvertop zetec .

Bit unfortunate as you lose a lot of the STi benefits unless you drive the VVT as well which adds to the complication. For the output you are looking at, i'd have gone Duratec, bit more spendy but lot more potential without going silly!
