Great looks like I'll stick with type E then...

I was hoping that the type 9 ratios could be changed with a kit but apparently you can only uprate it with a quick shift or strengthen it I think...popcorn:

You can get loads of ratios kits for type 9's. First 4 gear ratios are the same as the type E gearbox anyway so won't make any difference to performance. Ratios in the xflow 4 speeds are better but wont take the power. I'd say gear kit for type 9 would do nicely, check out trans-x or quaiffe.

    Just to add to that,

The ratios are the same as the 5th speed is 'tacked' on to the end of the 4 speed box.

I have heard off people braking 5 speeds because of the extra lenght of the shaft to allow for the 5th gear - stripping teeth apparently due to the extra length allowing more flex.

I would imagine that this would be a particular problem for you as drag raceing is all about grip of the line therfore generating massive torque throu the box!

If your gonna buy a Type 9 get one from an 1800 CVH sierra, they're the same as the 2.0 box but will have had an easyer life, the CVH isn't exactly brimming with power .
