ive completed the whole journey from standardish pinto powered to fully blown mk2 running a 2.3 xe etc.
you should have lots of power to have a bit of fun if you make the car a bit easier to work with.
personally id be going coilovers up front running 200 to 225 lb springs, (ideally a bit more but if you want to use it as a road car too id not go any more) , dial in a couple of degrees camber with adjustable tca,s and pull your front wheels well forward to gain plenty of castor and counteract the weighty pinto!! and as mentioned a 2.4 quickrack will make life easier.
and in the back a pair of decambered single leafs with tramp bars and adjustable shocks that you can stiffen up for track use and soften back to drive home!!
you will find this setup will give you the confidence to chuck the car about in control meaning you wont need stacks of power.
in my early days of competition i upset many the "off the shelf jap drift car" with these basic few mods!!
heres a couple of vids of my car in its recent spec.
the twin turbo v8 600 bhp jap car wasnt exactly blowing me off the track in silverstone!!! escorts will never die!!
