    Live Mapping Cosworth ECUs - A How To

    Just thought you would like to hear about this new software and hardware I am using as its so cheap

    www.tunerpro.net do a program called TunerProRT (RT for Real Time) Please register it if you use it $30

    Its connects to the Ostrich from http://www.moates.net/ $175

    then you can LIVE map any rom based ECU all you need to do is know where the maps are

    I have tested this with ALL the Weber ECUs including P8's

    If anyones interested in live mapping thier car then I can help out with the definition files for spark and Fuel etc.

    This is so interesting. Can you give us a a bit more of a how to Clint?

    I've mapped a few turbo cars running MS, Emerald and DTA but never been able to play with stock ECUs. My mate has a 2wd saph cossie running a T38 and greys that runs like a sack. I've always said he should get some standalone management so i can see to it. If i can get this to work maybe i can help him without it.

    I've downloaded the Tuner Pro RT and opened the .XDF supplied above. I take it this is for a level 6 weber ecu?

    The ignition table seems about the right size from what i have seen before.

    So... once i have put my required figures in the table for injector duration, dwell and ign advance how do i get them back on the ECU?? I take it this involves the Ostrich?

    Thanks for the chat earlier Clint. I think I am getting my head round this.

    I have the chip from my mates L6 and have access to a bit of kit to get the binary read from it.

    Once I have the binary I can then open this using the Tuner RT Pro with the L6 definition file.

    The problem with the definition file above is that the load and speed scales are not defined?????

    Once I have edited the fuel/ign tables to what I want I can then convert back to binary using Tuner pro and burn the prom again????

    Do I actually need the ostrich?? Could I not drive my mates car, log all the AFRs using my innovate wideband software with a MAP input, read the figures for injector duration from his chip and then do the maths and change appropriately?

    Has anyone got anymore definition files for the L6 ECU showing all the other correction tables and maybe with the scales defined?

    Tunerpro wors on binary files no need to convert.

    Just ordered a couple of 27C64s to play with and shall be making use of one of our contractors PROM burners next week.

    One final Q,

    How do you come up with an xdf file from the raw data??

    There is a good help file in tunerpro about xdf files, you really need to understand ROM based memory and how to count in hex.

    Ok, thanks Clint, will have a read up.

    With L6 ECUs being only a few pennies on ebay they would be a cheap way of doing fuel injection conversions on just about any car. You could have mappable injection on a pinto for example for under £100.

    Also you could run an 8 injector setup on a saph by piggy backing a second ecu in to control just the outer 4 injectors.

    Just an update on my efforts.
    Managed to get a binary file off a 803 t34 chip today and open it up in tuner pro using Clints definition file It reads perfectly!

    See attached file. Just change from .txt to .bin to read in tuner pro.

    Next challenge is the greys and t38 chip that is on my mates badly fueling saph.

    The problem is it is a collins power chip and apparently sits on some type of encryption board???

    I haven't seen it yet but can't imagine how this works??If the encryption board plugs in where the chip normally goes then surely what comes out of the botom of the encryption bored must be readable as normal??

    Any ideas Clint?

    Also the L6 .xdf you sent me is entitled basic; this sugests there is a more complete xdf maybe with some more correction maps??? Would it be possible to have a copy?

    Would like to be able to configure an L6 to run another engine.

    Interesting!

    I just happened to have bought an EPROM reader/programmer to play around with some old computer games/ROMS.

    I have got a 'stage 3 - 803 greens' chip in my L6 ecu. Does this mean I can read my ROM in, and fire up this TunerPro program to see what this actual map is like?

    aha...so Moates has been mentioned on here. I have wondered why most don't attempt to remap the original ecu,instead of going the standalone route,i.e. megasquirt.

    I have thought about this and Clint has done it on a pinto. If you shift it to another engine then technically it is just like any other ecu that needs programming. When people swap to another "standalone" it is because there mapper probally understands that type better. Rememebr some of these are 20 year old ecu's. If you look into it it may well be a cheap way as long as you understand it all

    .xdf for L8 are available on tunerpro Site. No problem...But can anyone post snandard .bin for L8/green top/ 048/01...???? or stage 1?

    The Maps are not encrypted, they are visiable but you need to know where they are, your ECU is a L8 right not a P8 ?

    Give me a few days and I will find my old XDF with the main maps for Pectel in it.

    Ok it was the file size, I have raised the limit to 70k which will allow a file of double this size.

    Before I spend too much time please check that this works for you, you do not have a P8 - its a L8 so 4x4 Sierra Cosworth.

    Attached is an XDF file: L8FORD.xdf

    On a side note the maps do not look very nice.

    Yes but the firmware you run will not be able to support this (that I know of) you will need to source an original board and run later software.

    A P8 will be the best bet as IMO the software is better and does not require sourcing of a baby baord, what injectors and turbo do you run, are you looking to run aggressive ALS ?

    this is for a rally car so it could be agressive, i've readed about using the idle valve to make this work, i have a friend with a p8 basemap that has als and i will be looking at it later.

    there are some guys on ebay claiming they found a way of doing it with the L8 board. will look at this later
