    Question 4 door 2 door conversion mk1

I was ordering a new slam pannel for my mk1 4 door from magnum the other day and I noticed you can buy literly the complete back panel of a 2 door escort from roof to sill to door catch to boot !!!! I've had a digz around google and I can't find any pictures of anyone who has done a conversion before . I've found a few where people have welded the rear doors up and called it a 2 door, what about a proper job of move the B pillar back, fit some 2 doors, and then unstich the old rear 4 door quarter panel and weld in the new one ? Considering the prices of rotten escort 2 door shells and considering I've done all the work to mine already. I recon you could buy all the bits to convert for 1500 quid including doors cards glass seals ect I've already brought "the shit" ready to fit to my 4 door the kind of shit a done up 2 door would sell for 15k with. If any one has any info who has done it would be good if they could send a link Question is should I and even be the first ? Debate below

I can tell you that for some reason the roof front pillars are a different pressing. Not sure if it's relevant

    4 door 2 door conversion mk1

It's been done and I'm sure it was on a thread within this site. The car looked good after the work. Sure someone will be along with a better memory soon.

    I know it's been done with a Mk2, I'm not so sure about a Mk1 though.

I did a bit of searching on here an this is the Mk2..
But I am pretty sure there's a difference between Mk1 4 door "A pillars" compared to 2 door "A pillars".

    4 door 2 door conversion mk1

Correct as 4 doors bolt on while 2 door doors have pins

The parts may only cost 1500 BUT unless you can tackle such a job yourself the labour would cost a fortune. And the doors/hinges would be different. If it was that viable there'd be loads done already

You say all the bits including doors! Who's doing doors?

    Re: 4 door 2 door conversion mk1

So if I could get a pair of doors from a van or an estate as the 4 door wings are the same on the van and estate would they line up with the front roof pillars as I know they are somewhat thinner. Then stitch the new back pannel on cut out the 4 door sills up to when the new pannel meets and ineer rear pannels. Then am I thinking the rest should be just ancillary so roof lining seats glass seals and so.
