Guys,
I have a 14 point weld in cage that I will be starting to fit soon and I need some pictures of the front leg mounting box location and orientation as mine wants to sit at an angle which doesn't look right to me!!
Thanks in advance

Just some general advice on how to line things up, like the rear stays, door bars and the front turret bars. Also how best to start fitting the main cage

Re: MK2 Escort Safety Devices weld in cage info
ive never fitted an SD weld in cage, but have fitted numerous other weld ins, so this is general advise not sd specific, and im assuming this is for motorsport use
the most important thing is you weld all the way round the cage joints in the roof. which with most cages means cutting holes in the floor where the feet sit, assemble main part of cage, hoop, front stays and screen brace, take weld together, then drop the cage through the floor and weld the top bits of the cage which you cant get to with it in position. i warn you now if you dont do that there will be bits that you wont be able to get to with a welding torch, but a scrutineers finger will still be able to find them. i recently had to remove a roof section of a car to weld the tops of a cage that someone missed but a scrut found it.
once welded jack cage back into position, now if you have weld in door bars or front triangulation theres a far chance that again you wont be able to weld all the way round so, tack door bars into place, and use big ratchet straps to pull the legs in towards the middle of the cage, that should get you enough room to weld all the way round, realise straps, weld cage/foot plates and move onto rear diag section, usually tricky as you are trying to juggle a load of tubes attached to nothing.
its not easy i fit cages but i dont like doing it,
oh a word on welding, you should have a nice looking beads of weld, without gaps DO NOT grind it back if scruts can see a nice fillet of weld they wont look much further

Thanks Graham. That just the sort of advice I was after! I know about welding all round the joins as I have seen cars thrown out of events for just that!!
