    Essex V6 flywheel / clutch problem . Capri Mk1

I've got an Essex V6 which came out of a very low mileage Marcos 3.0 , this has already been chemically cleaned , honed etc and painted and is going to be fitted to my Capri Mk1 which i'm preparing to race in the Classic Modified series at Swaffham ( short circuit non-contact 3.0L class ) , the car didn't have an engine or gearbox when i bought it ( or much of a floor , sills , wings etc ) . I recently picked up an early Essex from a Zodiac Mk4 as it had a gearbox with it and clutch .

Problem is the flywheels are different so the pressure plate won't fit the Marcos flywheel , the flywheels are the same fittings so could be swapped , but i think i'm right in thinking that these are balanced with the engines and can't be swapped over ? There are other issues , like the gearbox has a hydraulic clutch rather than cable - that i can sort out . If the flywheels can't be changed and i buy a later ( larger ) pressure plate to fit the Marcos flywheel , i believe that they have different release bearings as one has flat fingers on the diaphragm springs and the later one has raised fingers and i don't think that the later type will fit the older release arm .

Has anyone overcome this problem , other than getting a later gearbox and clutch ? Any thoughts welcome - this is my first post on this forum . Many thanks , regards Heff .

you can swap flywheels between engines IF they are the same type ie v6 essex, but back in the 70's essex v4's were common, you could of had any number of different flywheel variations, v4/v6 car/ van.

v4 and v6 flywheels will physically interchange but mix up a v4 and v6 flywheel and the engine will vibrate like a cement mixer with a missfire

In case it helps at all
Fw are not matched to crank.
Generally you can mix n match various thrust bearings to get what u want As most ford ones interchange
