Re: My Escort XE Project!
My Daily update.
Sealing day.
I started with the rear lamp sealings.
IMG_2608.jpg IMG_2615.jpg
The bigger issue was the cutting of the front door sealings. They were verry wobly. So...Another Lifehack
I´ve cutted a small pipe and put it in the weak part of the Door seal. I used a 1mm disk with a grinder.
IMG_2624.jpg IMG_2627.jpg
IMG_2628.jpg IMG_2630.jpg
Last job yesterday, marking and cutting of the door foil against moisture
IMG_2633.jpg
Today I will try to get the right side mirror in the right shape. The angle is not the same as at the left side.
mirror angle.JPG IMG_2581.jpg
The small plastic cap is in the right direction, maybe I have to cut the metal washer a bit in shape to get the mirror a bit higher...
Stay tuned...Dennis

Re: My Escort XE Project!
Good news....the last carbon parts came back from Paintshop.
I started with the frontbumpers...
IMG_2661.jpg IMG_2662.jpg
next job was the rear bumper. But the old number plate lamps needs some love.
IMG_2674.jpg IMG_2674.jpg
IMG_2681.jpg IMG_2679.jpg
after that I added an "Emergancy opener" for the Boot lid. I added a cable from ab bike, wich endet up near the Alloy Tank behind the rear seat.
The first picture shows the first trial...It works, but it was only reachable with an umbrella ;o)

Touchdown.
Now she´s back on its own wheels. Now I have to adjust the toe and the right position from the rear axle.
IMG_2713.jpg IMG_2720.jpg
IMG_2723.jpg IMG_2725.jpg
Maybe I need to screw it a bit higher...but for the moment I leave it as it is...

Car looks beautiful mate, well done. Absolutely love the colour, one of my favourites on a Mk2, and I'm not normally a fan of carbon but it suits this car.

Re: My Escort XE Project!
Many thanks for your comments! I really appreciate every one!
Powered with this motivation I did some more at the interior...
The the seat belts are now installed but the front latches were in a bad condition. so I decided to add some carbon foil instead of the sun burned gold/red foil.
IMG_3665.jpg IMG_3711.jpg
Next step were the inner carpet fixing rails which are made of alloy. After 45 Years the are also in a bad condition and needed some rework.
IMG_3698.jpg IMG_3704.jpg IMG_3705.jpg
fresh glossy Black painted the look like new ones!
IMG_3707.jpg IMG_3712.jpg
Last job for the weekend...the C-Pillar covers.
I bought some spare ones...but as usual..they need some modifications.
They did not glue some fixings on the parts. My luck, the fixings were OK at he old parts. So time to create some parts which are able to fit...
I drilled the parts out with a PDC Cutter and glued them on the new parts!

Stay tuned...Dennis

Re: My Escort XE Project!
found some Oil leakage around my vernier pulleys. So I decided to dismantle the Top cover and seal it again.
IMG_4196.jpg IMG_4163.jpg
Same for my gearbox. There were some oil drops around the box. I brought another T9-Box to the gearbox specialist. Now we rework the whole gearbox with seals and bearings.
And I started with the "stickers"
I bought a set of greyisch Harrier decals at dmb...They fit perfect to the STRATO SILVER
IMG_4316.jpg IMG_4319.jpg
last job...repolish the BBS rims and add the factory stickers!
IMG_4321.jpg
Stay tuned...Dennis

What a weekend!
The Best News at all!!!!
I've asked the CLASSIC FORD MAGAZINE how I can manage to get a Story about my car into the magazine... And they are interested!!! A dream come truth! I´m so proud of this honor.
Together with a friend, I fitted the headliner in shape. Now he looks really like a new one.
IMG_4447.jpg IMG_4516.jpg
And the Harrier Sticker are finished...

Re: My Escort XE Project!
One of the hardest things during a rebuild is to drill a hole in a fresh painted car...yesterday I did it twice.
I forgot to drill the two holes for the window washer nozzles. But the good news were that the studs which I spotwelded under the wings are well placed and route the pipe in the right way
IMG_4638.jpg IMG_4629.jpg
IMG_4640.jpg IMG_4641.jpg
IMG_4643.jpg
The scuttle panel is now fixed with rivets, which are not that big and high as the previous used screws.
IMG_4631.jpg
After that hard meal I finished the work on my rear spoiler. The sharp edges cuted some sratchmarks in the paint. So I decided to use a very thin protection which cam from Alfa Romeo.

Re: My Escort XE Project!
The windows are back in place, and the build comes to his last checkboxes on my to do list!
IMG_4888.jpg IMG_4891.jpg
But there are so much small issues to fix. Yesterday I found a huge dent under the right outer mirror. After dismantling the door I saw that I screwed the big braked (to stiffen the mirror at the door) above a small bracket from the door outer skin, what causes the big dent...luckily after reassemble in the right way the dent disappears!
There is also some more work to do on the exhaust system. To reduce the possibility of a turning exhaust, I welded the middle section together and I ad a bracket.
IMG_4788.jpg IMG_4866.jpg
Also the airfilter for the taper throttles is nearly finished. The issue is that every order from UK need more than 4 weeks to arrive. My problem is that the programmer needs a finished system to get it proper programmed.
With that, I build my own backplate. To get a little more clearance between the rived nuts and the fuel rail pipe, I ordered 4 spacer which will be cutted out with the waterjet.
IMG_4790.jpg IMG_4792.jpg
IMG_4858.jpg IMG_4854.jpg
Good news...I bought a small plotter to create my own stickers! Time to manufacture...Now I can reproduce nearly EVERY one colored sticker

Re: My Escort XE Project!
And the journey continous.
The spacer came back...time to finish the Airfilter. Now with enough clearance to the fuel line.
IMG_5006.jpg IMG_5008.jpg
I found three more weak threads, which I repaired again with Helicoils. Always a pleasure to drill holes in the open engine...NOT
IMG_5021.jpg IMG_5024.jpg
After sandblasting the T9 gearbox, I drilled the hole at the bottom to put in a temperature sender and use it as a oil drain hole.
IMG_4990.jpg IMG_4996.jpg
After that hard work I drove the car some kilometers around my neighborhood...
IMG_5037.jpg IMG_5040.jpg
Stay tuned..Dennis

Re: My Escort XE Project!
That´s what i did
Every noise which came in scares me and let my ears get bigger. But it drove like a dream! The suspention works perfect, not too loud inside. Next week wednesday will be the great day! I will spend the whole day on a Dyno to program the engine.
I expect around 210-220 PS.
As of now I can say the long and f...g hard work pays out. A fantastic feeling if every part which I stripped, reworked and whatever works fine together! A really great moment. Thanks to all in that great Forum!!

228 sounds very good indeed!
That's at least 50 more than you really need in an Escort.
Blimey, did I just say that? Definitely getting old ha ha.
