nice work! itb's on an XE just look like they were made to be there
The XE head is just a really clean, neat design - I think I probably prefer it to the Cossie in terms of aesthetics. Modern stuff has just gone nuts with all of the extra gubbins all over the top of the cam covers.
Oh, and silver, as it is
Whats the deal with sticking an opel engine into a ford in Germany? Whats the TUV guys and the H-Kennzeichen guys say?
@RedRocket Ich fahre eine rote 07 er Nummer! Fahrzeug ist nur zur Bespaßung und gelegentlichen Treffen/Ausstellungen!
Yesterday we made a big step with the head!
Removed the old water pipe, cut a thread and screwed in a 90 Degree fitting! Fits perfectly!
IMG_3214.JPGIMG_3216.JPG
And I made another major decision about the Pistons and Con Rods...
I bought some "cheap"con Rods on ebay...(yes...the BEST idea ever) and for sure they fit like s...t, now I will buy some 86,5mm Wössner pistons and K1 con rods. The engine block will be bored out one size (86,5mm). Now it is space enough for some nice Camshafts.
Have you checked clearance with the water fitting against the bulkead? most blank off that water fitting.
Hi, I found a thread which describes exactly this issue! This guy uses some similar stuff...and it works!
90 degree brass fitting.jpg
Yes but the above fitting has the ally casting on the head cut flush, ive done a few of these conversion, clearance is tight, id do a mock up first to be sure as its unusual to not blank that water fitting off. there are several other places on the cooling system for heater connections.
Well done on the project - my car and your shell are in similar states by the looks. I'm a 1/2 German living in NZ.
Keep the updates coming
The con rods arrived on saturday! After measuring the ccm volume of my Cylinder head I can order my pistons (Omega). They need to get milled some mm to reach the correct 11.2:1 compression.
I decided to buy camshafts .284 degrees inlet Cam with 11,4mm lift and 276 degree exhaust cam with 11,03mm lift.
IMG_3462.JPGIMG_3463.JPG
Today i've made some measurements which we Need to Mill the Pistons to get the right compression...
IMG_4595.JPG
IMG_4596.JPG
IMG_4594.JPG
nice work!!
Block came back from enginemaker. Now we start to assemble the engine to put it for measurements in the body shell...
IMG_4363.JPGIMG_4362.JPG
After fitting the exhaust manifold...next issue came up!
IMG_4358.JPGIMG_4359.JPG
Now we have to cut the wet sump and the dizzy at the head !
by the way...we bought some Omega Pistons from SBD and reduced the compression down to 11,5:1
IMG_4049.JPG
Time to continue with the front suspension. They need some love...and a sandblasting session...
Bought theese 8 Years ago. Legs with adjustable Koni Yellow inserts and some alloy top mounts.
IMG_4476.JPGIMG_4477.JPGIMG_4478.JPG
After 6 hours of sandblasting...
IMG_5162.JPG
Also cut the wet sump pan
IMG_5100.JPG
And I found some Seats in perfect condition...
IMG_4922.JPGIMG_4921.JPG
they look a bit better than the two RS seats which I Planned to use...

Gut gemacht Es kommt alles langsam zusammen
Finally fully stripped my old orange Escort...
orange.jpgShell finished.jpg
cut the dizzy...
head cut.jpg
prepared the front crossmember...(still need some plates welded on)
axle in.jpg
and put on the wheels to select the tire size! now with 185/60/13...but will be changed to 175/50/13...
new 1.jpg
Today we married the Engine... But there is a lot to do and a lot of questions...
To geht the Engine with gearbox in i need to cut the steering rack brackets
and cut a big hole in the tunnel to geht enough space in the rear
Now i have 8 mm space to the bulkhead with my waterpipe creation. To the crossmember 20mm in the height
Now i have the issue that the propshaft ist about 60 mm too long...
IMG_5169.JPG IMG_5172.JPG
IMG_5170.JPG IMG_5173.JPG
The strut legs are now painted, springs are coated and the adjustable top mounts arrived.
IMG_6366.JPGIMG_6364.JPGIMG_6362.JPG
good to see the before pictures...
IMG_4474.JPG
Iīm still waiting for the adjustment rings...
and some more nice stuff arrived from Motorsport-Tools:
My Carbon rear boot spoiler...
IMG_6367.JPG
I also started with the english rear axle...
with a tool wihich i engineered and welded together it works in just 10 minutes to remove both half shafts with a slide hammer. Now we can start cleaning the axle and give her some new paint...
IMG_6232.JPGIMG_6269.JPGIMG_6272.JPGIMG_6276.JPG
Today we put the halfshafts together with new bearing wheels. Then i screwed on the willwood rear brake kit.
I found an issue with the Hand brake levers at the calippers ! If i screw the calipper fully home, the Silver arms have a touch condition to the brake disk....
Now i can clean the Axle and give her some new paint.
Today the next parts arrived from motorsport-tools. New motamec fuel pump bracket, the big pipe for my fuel tank and the front spoiler.
Last work Today was the compleation oft the new front axle with new 2.2 Steering rack and the adjustable track Control arms ....enough for today...

IMG_5297.JPG IMG_5298.JPG
IMG_5300.JPG IMG_5301.JPG
IMG_5302.JPG
Back to the touch condition ... does anybody know this issue?
IMG_5306.JPG
I assume it is a designed kit ? Looking at that you could space the caliper out from the bracket by a couple of mm maybe or is it already touching with a gap on the bracket. There is a lot of stuff out there which just doesn't work out of the box and needs tweaking.
Nice project though
It is the BK63 Hand Brake Kit for english Axle from Motorsport-Tools
https://www.motorsport-tools.com/wil...it-130453.html
After spending another 1,5 hours of time with testing and assembling the kit, I found the best position for this caliper.
Moved up 2.5 mm and 3mm outwards. Now it fits perfectly. Hopefully...
But the next issue came up by fitting the BBS rims. The screws from the 3-piece rim are touching the handbrake lever mechanism...
#10mmwheelspacer yihaaa...
IMG_6424.JPG IMG_6425.JPG
I know it isn't the solution but do you need those size of callipers on the rear. They do look nice but if they don't fit. A sierra caliper will fit under a 13 inch rim even 5.5 j steels and is good enough to stop a cosworth. By the looks you have a 7inch rim using a spacer may cause arch clearance issues. I think the disk conversion already adds 10mm in the overall width. or add a second smaller handbrake calliper and take the other handbrake mech off ???? I think willwood do a smaller one.
so annoying when you solve something to be hit by another issue.

nice two door project
Next goodies arrived this weekend.
IMG_6639.JPGIMG_6638.JPG
looks great, keep up the good work!
what springs are you going to run in the front?
I Need to check the springs! the Inserts are adjustable GAZ dampers. This Weekend I finished the front brake System. Another hours of testing and spacers to get the right angle between brake calipper and brake disk.
