    Rear wheel bearings

How do you remove the rear wheel bearings from english axle halfshafts? I'm sure its simple but can't seem to get them off.

Simple yes - easy no! Need a Hydraulic press to remove hub then bearing and same to drive new ones back on.

    or the old school way,

use a grinder to cut off the outer bearing race, pull it off, then grind a slot into the inner bearing race until goes almost all the way through, then using a hefty hammer and sharp cold chisel in the bottom of the slot you have just ground give the bearing a really good clout which should split it, it then slides off.

refit with a press, or if you dont have one a scaffold pole makes a good impact hammer to knock the new bearing into position

Ha Ha, I was going to suggest getting medieval with a grinder but as the hub has to come off to fit the bearing.......

Side Q - is the hub a pure friction / interference fit or is it keyed? Don't know as not needed bearings yet?

unlike a full floater, as standard hub is an integral part of the shaft
