Difference between Mk1 & Mk2 Escort English axles?

    Hi!

As above really, I have a Mk2 escort with a weak köln-axle at the moment. I have a mk1 english axle that im planning to fit. But i remember reading somewhere a while a go that the springseats are different, and that the handbrake setup may differ also. Can anyone comfirm this with some further information?

I believe they are. Slightly different size. Search eBay for English axle both mk2 and mk1 are available to weld on. Not sure about the spacing must be similar though

Springs are slightly wider on mk2 at 50mm and from memory re hb early cars had a leather tab so the handbrake rod could move while later had a tube.

Thanks, i know what you mean. I've got a new rubber bracket from stage1 to replace the tired original leather bracket for the mk1 axle.

But besides the handbrake mechanism and the width of the leafspring support plates, i assume theres no other visible differences?

    Thanks for the replies!

I believe the two spring widths are 50mm and 60mm. Some Mk1's had rear anti roll bars, does a Mk2 ? Also the AVO Mk1's have tramp bars. The prop flanges are also different Mk1 to Mk2 , so you need to check if the Koln is the same as the English that you have, it is easier to change the prop flange than mess the setup on the diff ;-).

Yes you are correct, the mk1 have 50mm springs and the mk2 have 60mm.

Yes my mk2 1300l from -75 have a rear antirollbar as standard fitment along with the köln axle.

Thanks for the information about the prop flange! Did not know that!

Bin the mk1 cable set up and use mk2 cable and bar, I used to have 2.8 Capri drums with a shortened mk2 bar when road rallying
