    Engine re-build

    Hi all,
I've got a stripped 2.0 Duratec in the garage which I was going to re-build use new parts (oil pump, main bearings etc). was told the engine had done 118k.
The main bearings look fine and I'd like to re-build the cheapest way I can. I have a ST150 head to use & some new pistons I bought from caterham for 40quid inc rings.
So my question is what can/should I re-use

    Cheers in advance

    Neil

Best thing to do is measure and check everything why are you rebuilding it did it fail?

Hi Neil. I would say that if you have the engine stripped then it makes sense to change the main bearings (£60 approx) this will give you piece of mind. I would also recommend using arp bolts on con rods as you have no idea on history of ones you have. Note there are 3 sizes of piston dia available so you should check what your originals are and what the new ones are. They are easily identified by either a b or c. B is most common and middle sized. I have plenty of info if you require any.

To be honest it all depends on what you intend to do with the engine..... mega power or standard. You can't go wrong in my opinion with BurtonPower. They are good to deal with. I used mahl bearings which are used in Mercedes cars. My engine is 220 bhp and I have no issues . I have good reports on KING racing bearings also

I'm not going mega power thats why I was going to re-use mains as I believe the big end bearing to be a weak point, but for 60 quid I'll change the mains too.
What car is your Duratec in; not a green westfield by any chance??

Hi bud, car running great, this new engine is really strong, got 205 psi from each cylinder (last one 156 psi). Just waiting for the sun to come back!

Hornet600 what are the other markings on the piston as the new one (shown in picture) is 'B' the same as the old ones, but I have no idea what the other markings are??

Sorry bud never fathomed out what the others were apart from the arrow points to the front of the engine. The important one is the size as your existing bore will have been matched to either an a b or c sized piston. Remember to de glaze your cylinders before fitting the new rings.

I found this info about the piston markings. Look like the number denotes the piston size
