its only a couple of kilos of weight and the best way to do it by far
I have the swirl pot you showed on the last page and it is a lovely bit of kit, well worth it. And the weight added is nominal

Hmm,decisions, decisions,I'm being told one thing by my main man (professional race car builder) who I 100% believe in and another thing by Graham who I also trust 100%. I've given the carbs a once over and found that the float level is way too big on one of them which could cause the problems that I've got as too large a gap won't allow enough petrol into the float chamber in the 1st place, the only problem that I now have is working out how the hell it was set wrong in the 1st placeI'm going to give the reset float levels along with new banjos and pipe work a try and if that doesn't work I'll go down the route of fitting a swirl pot
the only ithing i would add nick is inmy view the carb problem alone cant be that severe as the car worked ok over sprint distances and runs ok on a rolling road
I occasionally had problems whilst sprinting too,my thinking is that with the float level not allowing a full float chamber there's nothing in reserve should there be any surge as a full chamber will allow approximately 30 seconds running before running out, that's more than 1/2 a lap of brands at the pace that I was travelling on Sunday so should of been enough time to keep the chambers topped up.
Nick, just looked through your thread and not one pic of your boot / tank area .. so i'll assume that you have a rally style tank and fuel tank stand, this is raised above the level of the boot floor, now what you do cheaply is get something to stick under the tank to raise it a bit more, and get a fugging huge fuel filter, diesel or something like that, plumb that into the line from your tank to the pump, you now have a small tank thats fed from the main tank, for a couple of quid you'll find out if its fuel surge.
i'd still fit a large filter ... or get the the fab gut to open the tank, fit a sheet inside with a 2" swaged down hole in the center inside .. about an inch above the bottom, and get him to fit an outlet in the inch space .. hate using push pumps as vacumn pumps..they are not designed to lift
Not that I know much about Fords but are you sure this problem is fuel surge. I run the same foam filled fuel tank with a red top pump, no filters and a max of 10 lts of fuel and don't get fuel surge.
It may be a silly question, but how much fuel do you put in the car
PM sent Nick
Well another week-ends racing over with no real dramas
Apart from only completing two laps in qualifying (due to a broken throttle cable)which gave me 3rd to last spot (25th)on the grid for the 1st race.Race 1: A dry start so we all went out on slicks, made up a couple of places in the 1st 4 laps and then the safety car came out due to a three wheeled Skyline parked at the bottom of paddock hill the safety car was out for 4 laps by which time it was pissing down on the restart I made up three places, overtaking a scooby,a mini, and cossie, for some reason I was able to keep up a good pace and actually passed another four cars to finish 13th overall and 3rd in class DSo for todays' race I lined up in 13th spot ahead of some much quicker cars/drivers,I got beaten by the cossie of Peter Taylor and 20V turbo'd Seat Ibiza of Nick Young into the 1st corner but held my own against the other faster cars into Druids but tangled (he turned in too early)with Paul Goddard in his bda powered zakspeed replica mk1 which ended up with him sideways across the track in front of me which let the rest of the field get away so I spent a few laps getting back on terms with the little pack that was ahead, managing to catch and pass the silver Mini of Steven King setting a fastest lap time of 55.5 secs but unfortunately he managed to get the place back once we were caught and lapped by the leaders (only three of them lapped me),I ended up finishing 15th overall and 3rd in class D and sustained a little "kiss" dent on the front wing in the process!! I'm happy to say that the misfire has now gone. Roll on the next round on the 10th of May.
Well done Nick, great result

Well done Nick , good lap time aswell hope to see you at the next round ,sending my app form tommorow,
Thanks, worrying thing is that Alex and Bill were doing mid 54s and dipped into the 53s on one lap!
Pic of damage: can anyone guess who caused it?
Well done Nic.impressive time for an unarched x-flowed escorti would say that was paul who done that?roll on the next round
tommy 2000
Correct Tom it was Paul,he did to me what I've seen him do time and time again to other people but got spun out for his trouble,I half expected to be dragged up infront of the clerk of the course at the end of the race but didn't hear a thing! Paul's not talking to me now. videos of race 2 here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISpxiHr-1BIYouTube - DMN 29th March 2009 Brands Hatch (1st half).. and here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-uelkqYurUYouTube - DMN 29th March 2009 Brands Hatch (2nd half). (not mine) If you look carefully you can see how much time it cost me at the start.
The day got off to a bad start for me on the friday prior to racing.... I woke up in the early hours with the worse tooth ache I've ever had and due to work commitments I couldn't get to see a dentist until Monday so I took loads of pain killers and rubbed Bonjela into the generally painful area for two days leading up to sundays' meeting
Anyway, sunday morning came and I drove to Brands hatch, arrived at 8.25,signed on and then parked up unloaded the car and took it to scrutineering where it was scrutineered by the head honcho and eligilbity scrutineer, who although clearly not impressed with my Led headlights passed the car and gave me the sticker. PHEW!!
Qualifying came and still feeling pretty sh*t I drove over to the assembly area only to be met with a bloody queue for noise testing which A: wasted loads of fuel ( I nearly ran out at the end of the session) and B: didn't do the clutch a lot of good as I was stop starting for at least 15 mins
Despite having to take to the grass to avoid a white Seat that moved over on me as I was passing it along Cooper straight I managed to complete the session and qualified 23rd on the grid and most importantly 2nd in class D.
Race one:Made quite a good start but was baulked by some of the "faster" cars that wouldn't push on cold tyres at the 1st corner, had a good race with Graham Richardson in his Nova for a couple of laps before making a break and eventually finishing 19th overall and 2nd in class.
Race 2:Feeling really sh*t by now,the race was much the same at the start but Graham managed to get infront of me whilst I defended against a yellow Seat Cupra and Paul Goddard in the bda engined mk1 Graham stayed there until his engine blew going down the hill after Druids (I'd like to think it went because he was pushing so hard to stay ahead of me) I was then able to make a break and get away from the cars that were behind me having a good race with a class B Seat,I eventually finished 18th overall and 2nd in class D.
My favorite pic showing how close class D is:http://www.snappyracers.com/album/10.../IMG_0590.html
I just need to learn how to drive properly as I drove like a prat for most of both of the racesMind you as I type this the whole of one side of my face is swollen and my tooth is still agony I've been on 1500mgs of anti-biotics a day since I saw the dentist on monday but they've not really started to work yet
sounds like you had a good weekend
every time ive taken antibiotics they've made me feel worse than the thing their supposed to be fixing, cant imagine they help much when your trying to race
Well done on the result Nick ...
Hi Nick im guessing from Garys post all went well ,i will be awaiting your write up
i had to let you have some of the glory nick you were certainly pretty quick early on i know we swapped places a couple of times before my tyres came to life and i started to push a bit more, but to be honest with the second part of the race getting more hectic for me against 1st nigel then barry in the rover my memory of the early part is rather vague, it was good fun thou

mmm you need to have another look at the lap charts, you are looking at the right car numbers? i was driving 46 yours is 71, the only lap you lead me over the line on was lap 8, as my lap times on laps 7 and 8 had slowed by 1.5 seconds, i can see where your lap times really slowed as by lap ten you were lapping at over a minute a lap
lap charts http://www.tsl-timing.com/?loc=club&...&eventid=92253

Sorry Graham,you must be looking at different lap times here are the correct ones: lap 3: #71; 56.905, #46; 56.981,lap 4:# 71; 57.864, #46: 57.115, lap 5: #71; 56.575, #46; 56.730, lap 6: #71; 57.676, #46; 58.290, lap 7: #71; 59.221, #46; 59.504, lap 8: #71; 59.081, #46; 59.533. You were only faster on lap 4 ! Lap 9 isn't available as that's when I was lapped by Rod.
Looks like one of you is talking about race 1 and the other race 2
a harh andy spotted it you said race one, that what i was looking at, clearly your talking about race two, but im afraid i still have to dissappoint you you might of been lapping faster but never were in front over the line, checkout the time behind the leader
lap 1, #46 8.334 #71 9.326
lap 2 #46 11.682 #71 14.531
lap3 #46 14.308 #71 17.6
lap4 #46 17.768 #71 21.492
lap5 #46 21.198 #71 26.258
lap6 #46 24.754 #71 30.754
lap7 #46 27.234 #71 35.131
lap8 #46 29.781 #71 42.819
lap9 #46 32.160 #71 50.310

Does it really matter. I would have beaten the pair of you
get your lid, and your gearbox and throttles and oil tank and and and cos im up for it
Later in the year
Nah twas race 1,but I have to admit that although my lap times were faster I must of been behind you apart from lap 8 which is when my bloody car went sick,I was certainly infront for more than a lap but I spose passing you on the 1st corner after the start of lap 7 would make me think that. I'm going off for a sulk now
Mind you when you compare power to weight ratios (mine 188bhp/tonne;yours 216bhp/tonne with drivers),size of tyres,(mine 8" rears,7"fronts,yours 10" f+r?)brakes( mine 260mm with princess 4 pots, yours HUGE) and driver experience (me 1st full season on circuits, you 5+years ?)you SHOULD be in front.I'm still going to sulk tho
whats your car weigh nick? mines a very portly 931kg even with the passenger seat out,
oh and my tyres are too bloddy hard!
my discs arent actually that big at 300mm disc size is overated anyway, pad material and temp is far more important than disc size
