Looks good Nick.. So Dave Longhurst sponsors you and you sponsor him ... Talk him into doing a round of the Intermarques
The business isn't mine but does belong to my family.
Dave did the last round that I did at Brands in his silhouette, got quite close to mr Birley even in the damp! Sadly he's now sold the car as a national hot rod to Bill who owns Golding barn coachworks (for his son to race,we sponsor him too),Dave is a very old friend (when I was 13-14 I was the saturday boy at the garage that he worked at in Worthing) and taught me a lot of what I know,he's now going pick up racing so hasn't got a car. OR did you mean in mine? .............He won't fit in it!!

After a bit of encouragement from Graham I've decided to change the spec of my engine mainly the cylinder head, I've just picked picked this up from Basil the head man:
It's based on a brand new casting and will use narrow stem big REC valves with single groove collets (thanks to Bill Richards) and alloy caps that are actually made for bmc A series engines!
It flows a lot better than the head with standard valve sizes that I've used since I built the car so hopefully will give a little more power through out the rev range.
nice. ports look the same as my vulcan head...

Sorry Bud,didn't really have time to take many pictures but here are the ones that I did take.
These show how I've matched the inlet manifold to the head (taken before I finally polished the ports).
And this one is the basis of my new engine: (Yes it IS a brand new Block) This has now been built up using a balanced cast crank, new set of Accralite pistons, new con rods (to my usual spec), a one off Kent cam, duplex timing gear kit (off set dowelled to save weight),new bearings and pumps etc.
This one shows the engine just before I fitted it this afternoon:
The car was supposed to go on the rollers today but due to problems with the rings which delayed the build I had to postpone the session until next week
Will put some more piccys up when I've taken some.
looking good Nick what sort of a power increase are you hoping for
Looks very nice Nick, hope you get it all done in time. If it don't work I've got a nice pinto sitting waiting to race..

Quick update, fired the engine up last night and there was a top end noise, only thing that I could find wrong was where a pushrod is rubbing where a sleeve had been fitted into the head,I took the head off to sort it but in view of the fact that today was the last day that the car could go on the rollers and I'd missed my slot I decided to refit last years' engine for this coming sunday so I would be sure of reliability plus the carbs are already jetted for it.
Thats a shame Nick, but i suppose its better to be sure with the new engine ,it will give you time to get it setup properly and bedded in etc ,im hopefully coming down sunday to cheer you on
I think the saying better the devil you know comes to mind especially as this may be the last time that I race for a while...............Although I am hoping to do a full season there's a lot going on in my life at the mo including having to move house.
Anyway hope to see you there
Race reports: I'm still too knackered to write a full report but let's just say qualifying was "interesting" And I finished the day 1st in class E and joint 3rd overall in the championship (and will be for the next 3 weeks)
I take it your week improved a bit Nick ,didnt realise there was pize money might have to try a bit harder next time out
Qualifying: Starting on a damp but drying track I decided to take it easy for the 1st few laps and wait for a dry line to form,I managed to get behind Bill Richards and spent nearly a lap following him through the traffic until Clearways where I ended up with my back wheels in the gravel trap after spinning off whilst avoiding a red and white Honda civic that spun infront of us,luckily the marshalls pushed me out and I continued (keeping off of the racing line until I was sure that any gravel that I'd picked up had been shaken off),I then started to push and on lap 5 put in a 59.03,still pushing I caught the # 86 Honda of Steve Govett as I got to Clearways,he was hugging the inside line (blue flags waving) so I went around the outside only to have him move left across the track as I was 1/2 way alongside him, this put me out onto the (wet) grass which ended with me spinning twice along the pit straight missing the wall by 10mm! I actually crossed the line and recorded a time whilst spinning! Anyway I carried on and actually recaught the same Honda as I went up the hill into Druids hairpin, thinking that he'd seen me this time as the blue flags were being waved and he'd gone wide I went up the inside only to have him turn in on me denting my nsr corner! And that was only qualifying!! The time that I set on the still damp track on lap 5 was good enough for 16th overall and 2nd in class.
Race reports will follow.
PS: I HATE HONDAS!!!!!!!
What happened to Graham Richardson in the 2nd race Nick did he suffer from driveshaft failure
Race 1 : I got worried on the warm up lap as I was alongside the wildly weaving cossie turbo powered mk1 of Ray Burrow who was using more than his 1/2 of the track! Luckily he'd stopped weaving by the time we all bunched up ready for the rolling start,at the start I kept with the pack and managed to pass Ray Graham Bahr and another around the outside at Druids hairpin,I managed to stay infront of them for the next 2 laps but their power advantage was too much for my poor little 1700 x-flow engine and they went past along the main straight and I was left on the wrong line for paddock letting Eric Falce and Graham Richardson have the inside into Druids and Graham Hill bend,I tried to hold the outside line but they both got past,I then spent 4 or 5 laps pressurising 1st the fiesta of Eric (who blew his engine) and then the Nova of Graham Richardson I could get near to him through the corners but his 230bhp 16v engine gave him just enough to stay infront on the straights,I finished 17th overall and 3rd (of 9 starters) in class E. I was pleased that I was only actually lapped by Rod Birley and Joss Ronchetti and managed to stay in the mid 55sec lap times.
Can't believe how long it is since I posted on my thread!........................Next meeting is at Lydden this coming week end, hopefully I'll get my head together and take part.
Might Help ,give you a few hours thinking of something other than your sad loss Nick
Why aren't you entered Graham?
As usual I haven't touched the car since last time! Got to change the diff as the current ratio is too high for Lydden, may leave it until I get there sunday morning.

i am! or i thought i was!!!!!!!!!!!!Why aren't you entered Graham?
yes
Well.I've got an hour to spare and I actually feel like working on the car so I'm going to change the diff and give the rear end nuts/bolts a quick spanner check while I'm under there.
Finished changing the diff.......Near enough set for saturday now...........Doubt I'll get a chance to wash the car before I load it onto the trailer
Had a bit of trouble in qualifying, coming along the start/finish straight there was a loud bang and the car suddenly lost all drive!! I think this may be the reason why!
Luckily it was my 8 year old 1700 engine.
