Not made a start yet then?
Looks a good one mate
ps. wash your truck!
been to dark in the evenings and raining on the weekends so far. hopefully the weather is getting better now though.
truck is fine, its done 9,500 miles since its last wash and is now gonna be replaced anyway.
Keep it the way it looks Mart No bumpers, same paint, those fat alloys ...... Real sleeper
Just fit the 24v & away you go
They are great fun with a 24valve. I'f build mine with the autobox from a 24v.
I miss my Mk5 sooooooooooo much! I still dream about it and I havent seen it since 1993
Rover.
Put me seats in ocer the weekend, take no notice of the colour as the whole interior is being retrimmed eventually.
Looks different

What ya doing with the diff out the Granny?
"I love you more than gummy bears"
Not desperate Mart. I just pick em up if they are the right price as spares thats all
"I love you more than gummy bears"
Seen this on a lot of 24v's that seem to be running fine, glad i decided to have it checked before it went in the Cortina as its a lot easier/cheaper to fix it BEFORE the bits eat the internals.
"Sump removed and pan checked, in the bottom were small bits of a guide
Fine silvering of the oil.
Tensioner Blade bottom end checked, slipper still in place but it had slipped in the location slot.
Oil pick up checked slither of metal in it
Oil pump removed stripped and checked, top plate scored, pump body 2 deep scores
So strip out front of engine
Timing cover removed
Blade removed
So that explains the gudie bits, the silvering of the oil in the bottom of the sump and the metal found in the oil pick up and the scores in the oil pump."
and i want to double the power of one of these things

oh dear Mart.not youre lucky week is it.and its only monday

Its ok, was expecting it to have some damage to the tensioner anyway, thats why the front was stripped off it to have a look, its common on these.
They dont make any noise to indicate its fooked so best off having a look, as although they keep running fine like it for ages eventually something has to give.
Its just one of them things, if you buy a second hand pinto you ALWAYS check the cam belt, if you buy one of these you always check the tensioner.
I'd rather buy it an oil pump, filter and gaskets now and know its good for another 80,000 miles than fit the bugger and have it explode in a few months.
Just means its finally run in when the tensioner needs doing.
yay! new bits, not that exciting for most of you i guess, but it all makes things a little closer to being finished.
Good move there Mart That is coming along nicely now
I have seen those chain tensioners on the bay for £90.00 is that right?
Keep the updates and pics regular mate - I am partial to the mk 4/5.
"I love you more than gummy bears"
I dunno about 90 quid, they are not available from Fords any more, Barry at XR4i spares (he had them remanufactured to the same spec as the Fords later spec modified ones) has them at £120 or TopBoss do em at 200!!
They sound expensive but generally will last over 100,000 miles and not much else goes wrong with these things so its not to bad.

More progress, its had a new oil pump, new sump gasket and seals, new cam cover gaskets and a new rear crank seal and been bolted back together.
Great work there Mart, should give you a big reliable 200bhp all day long, loads of torques and sound sweet at the same time

good for another 100,000 miles now.
will feel better about putting different cams and injectors etc in it now.
Engines in the car now.
heater box needs a small mod to clear the cam cover
alternator needs moving as its on the crossmember
Does this mean you have overtaken Matt?
Looking good, keep it up m8, should be a flyer.
Cupra Formentor / MR2 Mk3 / Fiat Ambulance
There has been more progress.
A smaller nissan alternator has been fitted higher up on the engine so it dont hit the crossmember.
Zooming along now Mart.
It will be finished in no time.
Leccy fan from the grannys aircon and a shroud to help out the rad fitted.
Coming along nicely, popup
What did the broken blade-thingy do? Was it the tensioner for the timing chain, in the same way that pintos have that little wheely-thing?
Out for a drive on a sunny spring day reminds me why I got this car
yes mate, sposed to keep the chain from flapping about, although the amount of em that keep running with the guides broken in half makes me think Cosworth could have saved money and made em shorter.
nice one mate. I bet it will go well!
Tensioner sorted for the new altermator.
Heres the latest instalment, some problems have reared their ugly heads but nothing serious i think.
The hole for the loom cut and strengthened.
room for the loom with the engine in
But not for this rad
or the sump
or the offside fannymould
This is down to the engine mounts being home made by the previous owner i think, were probably fine for the 2.8 that was in it before but not the 24v, taps spaced the engine up 1/4" on the mounts and as the pics show there still isnt room.
Gearbox mount lines up ok though
2wd Sierra prop is the same diameter as the Cortina one though so making a prop will be ok.
The tensioner blade on mine was snapped exactly like yours. Sounded sweet as a nut when it ran! Got a new blade, chain etc and almost everything from ford, they can still get most of it. Looking good!

One day people will stop asking 'Is that bit of your car supposed to be hanging off/leaking/on fire like that?'
looking good mart .....nice to see one of my cars getting finished even if its not buy me
onwards and upwards mart
Can you not mount the rad on the inside of the mounts and space it further forward
