Strange spline diameter on SA Mk2 1600 Sport

    Hi there,
I have gone to replace the wheels studs on my South African 1600 sport Mk2 Escort, and have found that the wheel studs and hubs seem to be of an unusual size. The spline diameter on the stud measures 13.65mm, whereas a standard wheel stud would be 13.1mm.
Does anybody know why this would be? Perhaps the front hubs are from a different model? I cant seem to find any info on wheel studs being made with these dimensions, so i was wondering if anybody can help.
    Thanks
    Tom

A little while ago i obtained some mk2 Escort hubs from someone within the UK. The studs weren't long enough for my intended use, so bought the usual Grayston longer items only to find as you say the spline dia is different. I ended up getting some from America Via ebay with the correct spline dia and the length i needed as i couldn't find any in the UK. I'm sure i've since read on a few forums that others have had the same issue. So maybe not just a SA thing.

So I deduce the imperial and the metric is the reason for the difference ?

no, because we used to swap imperial studs for metric

I think its one of those Ford things "because we can" !!

Yes I could have swapped everything for metric all round to make life easy had I realised. But this was on a early Corsair and as I'd already bought 8 imperials thinking they'd fit, i used them on the rear shafts instead. It actually cost not a lot for 8 imperial studs with bigger splines from the USA for the front hubs so it was as broad as it is long for me. But for you, the link Miniliteman gave will solve your problem.
