Escort Mk2 fit with Reproduction M16 calipers

    Hello,
I want to fit my Escort MK2 with vented disc. (Original strut, original hub, BJ 1977, 1,3 engine)
So I have ordered some capri 2,8i vented disc. I had before Bendix calipers, so I have bought som reproduction M16 calipers (no Spacerkit nesseary).
    http://www.ebay.de/itm/Ford-Escort-M...YAAOSwu1VW4AxE

To fit the discs were very easy. Then came the calipers. I wanted to fit the calipers on strut, but they hit the wheel hub! The caliper is also uncentered of the disc.
What is the problem? I thought to fit vented disc on escort is very unproblematic.

You need to mention to people you are using standard/base model struts.

I also noticed this warning in the ebay advert:

Important Note: These calipers do not fit ALL standard Ford hubs. In some cases if your hubs do not suit then you may have to change to aluminium hubs (60mm wide).

Which confirms what I told you in the other thread, and gives you a possible solution to your problem.

This I canīt imagine. But in the Ford Racing instructions is standing, that you can fit your M16 calipers with spacerkit on the original escort MK2. There are no information that I must change the hub. The aluminium hub can be also only fit on the RS hub. I think the reproduction calipers have another dimensions.

Well there is an ally hub that fits the mk3/4/5 Cortina. This uses the same bearings as the standard (not RS) mk2 Escort. Wonder if this would fit your stub axle?

Then a quick Google reveals this on here: Read the first paragraph of the very last post. The cast iron Cortina 3/4/5 hub maybe your answer??? Just an avenue to look at/explore.

Ok, thanks for your answer! This makes sence. When I raise some old Cortina hubs, they would have fit as well or?

Re: Escort Mk2 fit with Reproduction M16 calipers

ok I've just asked this question on Buysellcortina and was told: Although they use the same bearings, the MK3/4/5 Cortina hub wont fit your standard Escort spindle, as it has bigger space/distance between the bearings.

Therefore the Cortina hub must be deeper to start with (as I sort of had an inkling it may be), and I'm afraid therefore you are back to the drawing board and stuck I'd say.

BurtonPower list the same (alloy) hub for Cortina Mk3/4/5 and Escort Mk1/2 non-RS.

    Mmmmm
In the catalogue it is listed as Cortina and Mk1/2
    https://view.publitas.com/burtonpowe...pages/page/107

Maybe they got it wrong and changed it already online.
Have a set of those here, will have a look if they fit an Escort strut.

    Bugger ...
The Cortina alloy hubs does seem to be different to an Escort hub.

Escort Mk2 fit with Reproduction M16 calipers

I am currently using Cortina mk1 hubs on Escort mk2 rs2000 bilstein legs, they fit without any problems what so ever. The only difference is that they have unf threaded wheelstuds instead of metric like the mk2 have from factory.

Re: Escort Mk2 fit with Reproduction M16 calipers

Thanks for all the posts. When I understand it right, then it isn't possible to fix the aluminium hub on my escort strut. I still have two hubs. I will try to edit these on my lathe and look how it works.

I don't believe there is anything inherently wrong with them when used in the right situation! They are no different than std M16's with a spacer kit - use the right legs and hubs and they'll work. Same old story - you can mix and match plenty of parts but sometimes they just don't go together - square peg in a round hole stylee!

I don't think that is "square in round hole"...
So when I read the instructions of the supplier, so I must only fitted the alu hubs. But know I read that the hubs have another bearing distance. I think that I must fit a capri leg, must be also explained by the supplier!

Escort Mk2 fit with Reproduction M16 calipers

Centre wise would removing the shim washers bring them centre ?
And as for the hubs - some have a large chamfer on inside outer edge of the hub to clear calipers. Machine back at 45 degrees to get clearance

Whilst I agree with you to a point, its like I said before the bog standard Escort was never fitted with vents to start with. You can't really expect the seller to cover all the possible permutations that people will try and fix those calipers to, though he has mentioned they dont clear all hubs. At the end of the day and no offence intended, a little bit of your own information research on here even, would reveal most go for RS2000/Capri type struts for fitting vents.

As for modifying what you have, again you will need to check wheel clearance etc. If the hub is too shallow to start with, the caliper may not clear whatever wheels you are using even if you add on a hub chamfer etc. By centralising the caliper over the disc you are pushing it further outwards and may need wheel spacers depending on your wheel choice.

To save on more hassles I'd just bite the bullet and get the correct struts.
