    Minilights v Superlights v Compo ML's

What are the pro's and con's of each. Anyone got photos of all three?

From what I understand Minilights are the original, Superlights are copies of Minilights and Compo's are sort of modern versions of the Minilights .

I want to fit 7" versions with 175/50/13 tyres to my mk2 RS2000 - are there any fitting problems. My front arches are already rolled.

    Cheers

The originals are Minilite, Minilights are another copy like Superlite and ML wheels.
Have a look in the latest CF, there are pics of several Minilite-like wheels in that mag.
Look for the ET-number of the wheels. Anything lower then ET 0 and you could run into fitting problems (tyre hits arch).
Superlites are, well used to be ET-8 so they don't fit properly.

ML's are a proper motorsport wheel too (as are the minilites). I've always been told that the Superlites are a pure road wheel and not so strong, which of I suppose is why they are cheaper

And i would go 195/45?/13's so you have a bit more rubber on the road, youll have no problems with clearance on a mk2 with 7's

My compomotives are -6mm offset and they filled the arches nicely with 185/60's on

    Thanks for all the replies,

Gary - I take it yours are ML's,
Paul - I may take you up on your offer,
Dave - I want the stretched look, I dont think 195's will give the same effect will they?

    Cheers

Ah your going all south london on me are you

The 195's on 7's sit practically square i think, on 8's they become stretched. Its what i will be running on mine because its the only tyre i can find which will fit under the rear arches on my 8.5" wheels and the bonus is they are the same price as 175/50 yokos for dunlop sp9000's

Oh and go for mls they look the best imo

    Re: Minilights v Superlights v Compo ML's

I would normally reccomend Compomotive... but after my last encounter with Compomotive directly I'm seriously concerned about using them again: I had a set of custom wheels machined for a mk1 Toyota MR2 with a wide arch bodykit, so needed extra wide wheels and offsets - I went for MO's as I love them (see pics below!) ... but when I got them they had a load of nasty marks, swirls and discolouration in the powder coating. After sending the wheels back and getting no sense out of Compomotive they basically washed their hands of it and stated that "they could guarantee the strength of their wheels" but "not the finish or paintwork".

If they're for a road car, be warned - you may well get a set of fantastically strong and well designed wheels, but you may not want to look at them too closely.

Don't worry about any fitting problems. My normal escort is fitted with 7x15 minilites et+5 and there is no problem.

I have MLs fitted and are completely happy with them, if you look at minilights the hub is HUGE and is quite ugly,
BTW Ex SE13, SE4, SE8 sarfeast lunden rules

Yep, I guess standard mk1/mk2 sizes and offsets will be quite common, so you should be able to see what you're getting before you buy.

It wouldn't have mattered a jot on a track car, but as this MR2 was a complete one-off (only the 3rd ever UK 2 litre turbo conversion - the only one in the world with a Eurosport kit, and the only one in black over white two-tone), I was quite fastidious about them.

I just thought the attitude stunk for nigh-on £200 per wheel... and just summed up the reason British industry is going down the toilet. Why bother with a British company when I could get a similar product cheaper and to a better finish, from a foreign supplier.. and without the "you could pay us to re-powder coat them, but they could be worse" attitude.

Cheers Gaz, it' was certainly an eye catcher, and jeesusbloodyhell fast too Gone now it paid for a little bit of my 911 turbo tho!

Done a few projects like that over the years; never gonna sell the Escort to finance one though! The mk1 is a keeper!
