Bolts to the bellhousing for which there are two? types - cast iron Sierra (which maybe integral) and alloy RS2000 - the latter has starter positions either side.

hi thanks for the reply
its the sierra cast
where it originally bolted on to the gearbox... the zetec sump flares out stopping the starter from going on if I knew how to upload pics id put some on lol
I think its a series 3 engine with a 2 part sump does the sump need cutting out
?
Ah - that explains it.............the two part sump has to go in the bin - can't be used! Some modify the Sierra tin sump, Focus/Escort ally sump modified or easiest a Retroford sump - 2 choices, depending on Car - where the sump bowl is situated.
thanks for the info
ill have a look
which belt would I want for just crank water pump and alt
hi would this sump be ok?

Ebay 252683285543 or 172460384695. The sump in your link is for a FWD Escort or Fiesta. You need a RWD converted one to fit over your crossmember and give you access to fit the starter motor.
If you are going to modify - yes. Do a search on here for 'Zetec Sump' - its been covered loads of times and there are peeps out there who can do the cutting, plating and welding. They are getting hard to find hence the price!
As regards your other question re. belts its more involved than just a short belt. If you want the shortest aux. belt run you have to turn the water pump the opposite direction. To do that you need a ribbed pulley - available on here from a member and also a reverse flow impeller available from IKE Engineering. Its moderately involved but i've done it on mine.
Hi thank for the replies as for the sump fouling the cross member this is not a issue I forgot to mention this is going into a kitcar it's the starter motor that's the issue..
The belts
I thought the 1.8 water pump run in the right direction
If you use the escort pump the belt runs around crank pulley, water pump and alternator. Mondeo pump you have to keep the original serpentine belt system
Again - that's a silvertop

Sorry guys. Didn't spot it wasn't a silvertop
