Bolts to the bellhousing for which there are two? types - cast iron Sierra (which maybe integral) and alloy RS2000 - the latter has starter positions either side.

Ah - that explains it.............the two part sump has to go in the bin - can't be used! Some modify the Sierra tin sump, Focus/Escort ally sump modified or easiest a Retroford sump - 2 choices, depending on Car - where the sump bowl is situated.

Ebay 252683285543 or 172460384695. The sump in your link is for a FWD Escort or Fiesta. You need a RWD converted one to fit over your crossmember and give you access to fit the starter motor.

As regards your other question re. belts its more involved than just a short belt. If you want the shortest aux. belt run you have to turn the water pump the opposite direction. To do that you need a ribbed pulley - available on here from a member and also a reverse flow impeller available from IKE Engineering. Its moderately involved but i've done it on mine.

Hi thank for the replies as for the sump fouling the cross member this is not a issue I forgot to mention this is going into a kitcar it's the starter motor that's the issue..

    The belts

I thought the 1.8 water pump run in the right direction

If you use the escort pump the belt runs around crank pulley, water pump and alternator. Mondeo pump you have to keep the original serpentine belt system
