    Emerald K6 ST170 VVT

Currently building a loom for my mk2 fiesta that I have fitted an st170 engine. I have bought an emerald k6 ecu for it and been building my wiring loom over the xmas period. I'm stuck as to what pins the vvt will be wired into. Anybody help on this as I'd love to get it finished before I go back to work, of course emerald are closed over the xmas and new year period so can't phone them. Also does anybody have an st170 map.
    Thanks in Advance

I'm amazed that such a good and comprehensive ECU has little or no info on VVT control - I've been through the ecu and the manual and although there is a generic VVT map there is nothing about how its used or wired! I would imagine its one of the AUX OUT pins as these are user defined! Re ST170 maps - can't help.......if it was DTA - a few are available!

As far as I am aware the k6 does not have a true vct control on it (I.e. Fully variable), you therefore have two option, one is to run it in vetch mode using the aux output but not sure how the st170 reacts to this (I have the puma 1.7 with vct and this is ok but needs to be turned off again at high rpm I.e. on at low, off at high, off at low load), the second is to use a separate vct controller that are about £200.

If you want full control the omex710 and dta s60 will do it.

That said there were rumours that emerald were updating it to run vct, may be worth a call to them.

Edit - emerald website shows vtec and vvt control, may be you have an older k6 that can be updated by them?

Been in contact with Emerald the ecu does require an update. Only £25 and that gives full vvt control or so they told me over the phone. Just trying to get loom done just now and if I'm lucky see if car starts. Ecu getting sent to emerald once they open again for the update.

Car should start fine as the default vct position for low load and low revs is closed. If you have a base map from a similar engine (same injectors and inlet manifold/tbs would be useful) then all should be good. Remember if you have a wide band lambda plumbed in and the 0-5v output connected to the ecu you can run it closed loop for safety or try the "self mapping" feature if you want to tune it whilst driving, a tip here to get the corners of the map is to Left foot brake whilst running so you keep the revs down whilst using high throttle opening.

no reason to doubt that it gives full vvt control, it should start ok without the vvt meanst while
