    Identify my Propshaft

The propshaft in my escort MK1 is 54" long (flange to end of yoke) and has 16 splines

All replacement propshafts I've found online are 51" long and most are 25 spline

I've got 1.3 xflow engine with 4 speed (i'm assuming type E) gearbox

Does this mean it's not a standard escort prop/ setup? I ask because the car starts to vibrate when it hits a certain speed and am thinking the prop might be off balance

If your prop is vibrating at speed, just take it to a propshaft specialist and get it re-balanced. They will also access the condition of the yokes and splines.

I used Dunning & Fairbank in Leeds, they ended up making a complete new shaft for me due to worn yokes but it didn't cost any more than the 'off the shelf' ones available. Also, as its based on your existing one you know it will fit!

Note - if your car is running its original engine and gearbox it is likely that the gearbox is not a type-E but a type-2. Base model shafts are 3" longer than rs2000 ones from memory and they defiantly have a different number of splines to match the gearbox.
