i'm gonna buy 3 more litres. I'll see whats necessary to have a good protection. I'll post it here Still need some spare stonechip as i will be installing wider fiber arches and need to do some more welding.

I used five liters on mine and that included doing the inner wings(on the outside if that makes sense) and that seemed to be a good thick coat everywhere.
OK. wasnt quite 100% happy with the coverage of the first stonechip layer. Used 2 cans so far of 1ltr.
Today i sprayed 3 more cans over the car. Thats as much as u used lee1.
The car is now perfectly covered in stonechip. It looks lots better protected with a firm layer. You cannot see any more primer through the stonechip, so i assume its good.
Since the second layer of stonechip made the arches and underside of the car white enough, i also decided not to spray anymore 100% white paint over it.
Some close-ups and some generaly pics as usual
me and the girlfriend have bought ourselves one of there. It also needs a full resto, new windows, electrics, isolation, ...
Working on the car will be delayed (for now). It will be moved to a temp garage for now, where it can wait to be transfered to the new home
I can now start thinking bout building my own ultimated garage Thinking bout a little pit, and lots of lights, ...
whoa, its been almost 2 years since i updated the thread. In the meantime i build me and the gf a new house. That is to say, restored a house from 1965. Changed the outside and everything on the inside is new.
Might be a good post in the before and after thread :-)
Anyways, its time to finally start building my garage to house some cars and my beloved escort mk2.
For that i have customised a scissor lift from the brand Trepel which they used to load containers into airplanes. See http://www.trepel.com/files/ccl35s.pdf
I have attached a picture of such a lift i used.
The problem i now have is that the lift is at its maximum lift height (254cm), but i need 46cm extra to lift it level with the floor. You can see in the picture that it now just reaches under the floor level.
What are your toughts about increasing the lifting height. I've tought about longer pistons, but this would require redisign of the piston mounts.
Now i'm playing with the idea of an extra smaller lifting platform thats on top of the big lift. So a smaller lift to gain the extra 46cm.
cant you build a false floor onto of the lift?
It's a lot easier sitting here watching you do yours than going to my shed.
- Dave Roberts
had that idea once, but the downpart of it is that i will need a ramp in the basement to ride the car off the lift since, it will not fold into the floor as before (nice flat with floor)
could you not fix the lift onto hydraulic jacks and lift the lift? so to speak?
here are 2 pictures of my solution i'm going for
I have lowered the height of the basement from 2,4metres to 2,2metres
i also ditched the pit where the lift hides into when its completely down
the lift now will be placed on top of the basement floor.
Downpart is that "driving" the car into the basement will need a ramp.
But..i will leave the car onto the lift when its down for storage. I dont need it to be placed next to the lift. This will only take more place in the basement as the lift area wont be used then.

so funny ready my old thread, its been from 2007 since i worked on the car myself. so several years, a new house, 2 kids later we begin again !
In this time the car was sent to a bodyshop, but retrieved it from there at the end of 2013.
when i see the shell now, its not so clean and flawless anymore after the bodyshop work..
SO... lets proceed shall we
i asked this Q in another thread where to cut the rear right panel

That is fantastic!! You have done a wonderful job with your house! To reach the extra 460mm, can you increase the length of the arms? This would reduce the weight you could lift a little too.

welcome back...keep us posted..
thx
the lift is functional now, works great. Its an old lift from the airport of Dusseldorf that was used to lift containers into the aircrafts. I have adjusted the basement height a little to the lift and all is OK. It doesnt even notice there is a lightweight escort on it its mega overkill but that means a lot safer.
Fantastic House great car.... What stone chip did you use for the underside of the car?
thank you
i used this stuff, its doing a good job so far, but havent driven the car since 2007 lol

not much work done due to back ache
cleaned up the welds and gave a temp protection

i bought all my gp4 parts years ago, and left them...unprotected. Result below, a lot of rust. I tried cleaning it with the grinder which works okay, but its impossible to get everywhere. Looked into just replacing it with new parts, but i'm gonna have it sand blasted and primed since its only light surface rust.
Left turret was cleaned in approx 30min, try and do that on the other side !

This inside of this box is also impossible to clean. If only i had sprayed a little primer back then ...

Have you considered some sort of chemical agent to remove the rust? I read somewhere vinegar works, lots of other alternatives on the market also.
yea through that is a couple gallons of vinegar for a couple days and it will be a lot better. works even better if it can be heated up a wee bit also. not boiling mind you just about 150deg f or so.

get some bilt hamber deox c to treat your rusty parts....google it and look through the images.
track fiesta on all the right bits.....
Ok thx for the tips guys, i'm gonna investigate these options.
I follow this guy on youtube, Pete from SWRNC, and he has some video's on vinegar water that removes rust. Quite impressive ! His channel is also hilarious, he has a body shop and swearing is his hobby :-)
inside of the car was very rusted from not-so-good storage for several years, pain in the @ss getting it clean with the grinder. Thinking of having it sandblasted. There goes a lot of time and effort with grinding + you have to use a rust-stop product (i use the loctite stuff) which is pretty expensive. did it in sections because the grinder was getting too hot
