    Arches on 4 Doors

Right then been looking at some nice arches to help me ruin the body work some more and of course came across the problem of how do you fit arches to a four door escort.

Plans thus far have been to weld to two rear doors shut and put on 2 door arches. Not my idea as I think its a tad problematic.

My idea was to get a set of 2 door arches, the only ones you can get and tack them on and cut then along the edges of the rear quarter to the door, make a bit of a gap and plate them off so you get the two rear arches in two pieces, one for the rear quarter and the other for the door. May need to be in 3 pieces for a small part to be attached to the arch running under the door.

    Else just leave it alone

what are your plans for the car? unless you need the arches i say dont do it.

converted 2 doors just make you look like you wanted a 2 door but fell short of money . with a bit of inspiration you can make 4 doors look good, and not in a 'i cant afford a 2 door' way

    Re: Arches on 4 Doors

Like everyone I wanted a 2 door but my 4 door came along in decent nick at a good price.

Going to use it for track days and the usual hooning about. Depends on how wide a wheel I can get under the standard arches with an RS2000 English Axel. Would like 7" but would live with 6"

i have seen fibreglass forest arches on 4 doors and they looked ok, talking on guy that did it he said he used front arches on the both ends of the car that way he still had openable rear doors without having to hack the arches about

Im sure getting 7" wide wheels under standard arches would be pretty easy on a mk2. I managed it on a mk1

Yep 7's fit really easy, my 7's are -6mm offset if its any help, more would be better say -8 to 10mm My split rims are 8.5 and theres room for 9's i think if you have the split rims made to your measurements

    Re: Arches on 4 Doors

i have seen a red mk2 4 door on ebay with forest arches. it did look pretty sweet. looked like they put the arches on as if it was a 2 door and made a cut along the arch so you could still use the door.
not sure how well it would work on a mk1 tho

I think it would look good to cut the arch to the line of the rear door.
It would need to be done right though

Good Pic. Seems they have fitted them in 2 parts, one to the rear quarter and one to the door. Hmm time for the air saw then

This one has the rear doors welded up. might have worked better with 1 piece rear windows

I’d probably use polycarbonate. You can buy coated polycarb that looks like glass & doesn’t scratch easily like the rally car windows

There is a place in Wigan that makes custom windows for tractors and narrow boats think they could sort something like that out
