If it was a belt I would be worried but chain tunnel is biggest hole into the bottom of the crankcase so why not!

    Re: Cam Cover

Sorry i missed these replies. Then issue is how close the chain is to the underside of the cover. It clears it, just but there's no room for the oil cap. I suspect it's been designed for dry sump and then the filler cap added as an afterthought.

The thickenss of the material is maybe 4mm, not really enough thread for a decent grip I think. Can't sleeve it for a taller, thinner cap because it will likely interfere with the bonnet (it's a tight fit anyway - bloody tall these duratecs).

    Choices are:

    1. Try and find or make a new very shallow filler cap
    2. Try and make a new opening on one of the cam banks - still fairly thin metal but at least we have vertical space to play with and seal up the existing hole
    3. Accept that's it's only for filling the oil now and again, block off the filler hole and fill it up with oil through the hole for the cam sensor...
    4. Dry sump it and block the hole.

The 842 cover looks amazing and seems well made - but a frustrating experience.

Secret option 5 is an ally spacer between the head and cover…but room between the front of cam cover and the bonnet is already tight.

    Re: Cam Cover

A one off cap should be do-able - a 1mm or 1.5mm pitch thread should give a couple of turns to tighten, add an o-ring under cap to seal - that would be my solution.

    Re: Cam Cover

Sounds like 3d printing could make up a nice cap for that. I am no expert on it but i am sure it could be done in a suitable plastic etc.

As an aside i notice you are using the retroford fan switch. I blanked mine off with a 10mm hex cap (i think it was) and i have the fan controlled from the ECU now it looks far neater now that you have that lovely cover and you can control it accurately.
