    Cam Cover

Whilst completing my Duratec conversion i have been keeping an eye out for a nice cam cover to replace the plastic one.
Ideally i would like something a bit old school looking, something like Retroford offers for the Zetec
I know the oem one works perfectly fine and in a race car build you wouldn't bother, its just a bit off bling.

Anyway i thought id put all the options ive found here for other peoples interest and feedback.

First off is the Raceline one for 295 Pounds very modern looking but quite nice.
Plenty of these have been used and no bad reports. Cast from LM52 aluminum

Then theres this one from ARE in the states. I like the plain look of these maybe with a high temp coating applied.$489 USD made from cast aluminum

This one from a company called DRD Racing Fabrication of which i have not heard off before. Made from billet aluminum Apparently they have only made a handful at this stage.
Im not sure on the quality only because it has only been made in a limited quantity at this stage, what do others think. 500 Pounds for this one. These are some photos of one they machined to far and threw away.

Roger Carrol has also mentioned somewhere that he was looking at making on, im not sure where he got to with it though. His other products have been top notch though.

Then there was this one as mentioned in this thread , no further details though by user "Clint" anyone have details on it?

And this one made by a very clever member on here you can see his build here

    I'd say it's a toss up between 4 or 5..

Both look really nice.. But I suppose I'd lean towards 5..

Great thread, im on the lookout for a period looking camcover also for the conversion on my mk2 escort. I like the look of ford lettering on both cam sides.

Did not know that there were more than the raceline available to buy. Thanks for the info.

I had a few ideas. It will need something as its supplied as raw aluminium. Might juts clear anodise it. The other thought I had was to paint the recessed details in black and then clear powder coat the whole thing.

Agreed. Well worth the cost - just for the wow factor. Looks great with the recesses painted black . I'll have to think of something different now . Did you apply anything to the unpainted part? Just asking because I don't think they're anodised.

Same here, paid in full in September, nothing until Feb when he finally replied to one of my messages with:

"oh that should have arrived by now, I'll check because I had some parcels go missing and will be in touch tomorrow"

    Radio Silence.

£330 I paid him up front and it's now past the 6 month paypal claim window - i didn't request a refund because i actually want the damn thing - they look fantastic!

Worth going to small claims court i wonder - though how that works with him being in Eire i'm not sure...like i say though, I don't want my money back, I want the cam cover!

    Re: Cam Cover

Dave Willets commented on that fb thread then i spoke to him separately. He has a cast JR dry-sump one available and a billet dry-sump one available from stock.

He gets the billet ones machined in pairs and is happy to get more done. I guess the more he gets done, the cheaper they are. Billet one is around £600 so not cheap but look amazing.

If anyone is interested, i can approach him about a group deal or a billet covers? I want a wet sump one.

    Re: Cam Cover

I wouldn't rely on getting a volume discount - CNC isn't always cheap! Look at the size of the material you start with and 80% will become swarf, all that material takes time to carve out and machine time is never cheap. Volume discounts generally apply to simple mass produced parts where auto loading of material allows 24/7 runs of product - complex low volume production just isn't cheap unfortunately!

Well it finally arrived after 9 months of chasing...and it looks fantastic.

Hard to recommend the guy though, unless you're around Dublin.

Thanks Philip but i don't need a billet one now.
