I have recently got my car up and running again & it has a freshly built 5 speed quaife pro gearbox fitted!
Could anyone tell me if this should be noisy when the car is ticking over?
Thanks

if the car is not moving i dont think it should be making any noise, maybe clutch release bearing or spiggot bearing

One day people will stop asking 'Is that bit of your car supposed to be hanging off/leaking/on fire like that?'
It depends what you call noisy
It will make more noise than a std Type 9 but shouldn't be loud and the noise should stop when you depress the clutch
When you drive up the road it should whine, but not rattle like mine did

its quite a noticeable noise, sounds like a box of bolts!
but it stops when clutch is down!
the box hasnt been used since built and has enough oil in!!

Not necessarily - that's what was suggested to me when I fitted my eBay Quaife Pro, which rattled like mad and wouldn't engage 5th, changed it for my 10 year old Quaife Clubman and the noise disappeared - Quaife Pro currently being rebuilt
Terry - you'll have to take it up the road, 4th should be the quietest gear as that's direct drive - it should sound like a loud whining gearbox, not something that's about to disintegrate

No, I gave up on that, just the cable setup!
I spoke to Bernie (gearboxman) today & emailed quaife and they both say that there will be noise, especially when u have lightened flywheels & comp clutches etc... but i'm not so sure!
The noise seems to come from the bottom of the maincase!
