i did a bit more machining to the uprights and removed 6mm from the stub axle face,it required a bit of a tricky setup on the mill with the rotary table.IMG00154.jpgIMG00155.jpgIMG00156.jpgIMG00157.jpgIMG00158.jpgIMG00159.jpgIMG00160.jpgIMG00161.jpgIMG00162.jpgIMG00163.jpgIMG00166.jpg

thank you, the stub axle is held in by an interference fit of 2thou pressed into the upright and the back of the stub is threaded and held with a lock nut,its how the other makers of this kit do it.

thanks again, just one word of warning if you ever buy machine tools they are expensive and tooling costs a fortune but for me they are ten times more addictive than cars im always on the look out for my next tool fix and what body part i need to sell to get it.

Great job, there is some work and thought gone into all that!
Any pictures of the car they are on, are the parts for rallying?

Where did you get the large rose bearing for the TCA? Is it just interference fit, or does it use with a circlip also?

mcgill motorsport for the bearings, and they are an interference fit also retained by 2 grub screws for added security but the shoulder for the bearing is on the thrust side so they are,nt coming out without a big press.

I have loads of ideas but not the facilities to do stuff like that. You ask engineering companies and they aren't interested in one off's.

    Great stuff.

thanks wildo i am a one man engineering/fab outfit i do alot of quirky one off stuff and bits other engineering companies would not touch. But i,l never get rich at it,the reason i decided to make all this stuff is to prove to myself that i can and to use the best materials regardless of cost example in the stub axle which is made from en24t steel and then hardened and tempered to 40rockwell,also the wheel studs which are made from en24 and all manually machined very time consuming and expensive.I RECKON I have well over 100 hours in it so far and at least 500euro in materials. If like pm me about your ideas.

It's good to see the skills of an old School machinist at work using their talents to good affect. It's nice that quality materials are being used unlike a lot of the mass market components for the old Escort. Look forward to seeing more of your work Mick32.

I decided to post up some pics of me making some ff atlas hubs today.the material im using is 6086 t6 alloy billet 150mm dia icut off 4 slugs in the band saw so im going to make 2 kits.each slug is machined to its final size and rough bored, final bore size for the bearings will be done in a 4 jaw chuck for zero run out.IMG00202.jpgIMG00203.jpgIMG00206.jpgIMG00207.jpgIMG00208.jpgIMG00209.jpgIMG00211.jpgIMG00212.jpgIMG00213.jpgIMG00214.jpgIMG00215.jpgIMG00217.jpgIMG00218.jpgIMG00219.jpgIMG00220.jpg

pulled out the 4 jaw chuck today to start final boring on the wheel hubs, the hubs have to be clocked up both radially and axially, you be surprised when you measure up some cnc mass produced stuff and find runout between front and back faces im only talking tenths of a mm but hey im rambling.IMG00241.jpgIMG00242.jpgIMG00243.jpgIMG00244.jpgIMG00245.jpgIMG00246.jpgIMG00247.jpgIMG00248.jpgIMG00249.jpgIMG00250.jpg

mounted the rotary table on the mill today, centered the hub on the table with a dial gauge then centered the hub with the mill table.then off set the rotary table by 54mm and drill and hand reamed the 4 stud holes every 90deg.final step was to put in a 3mm deep x 19mm wide slot on the wheel mounting face.

Re: heavy duty wrc style front suspension

Been a bit slack with updates for last week or so but trying to catch up on regular stuff.Last week was possibly the most hectic i had in years on monday i purchased a lathe on tue went in to hospital to have a piece of metal surgically removed from my leg(LONG STORY)on wed had to make a jig for transporting the lathe on thur went to the uk to pick up the machine and got back home on sat. This mon past spent the day moving the machine into my workshop not any easy task it weighs 3500kg once it was in place had a bit of a play with it only to discover it sounded like a washing machine full of rocks went digging into it and found the headstock bearings are knackered.Anyway went and picked up cds tubing for atlas axles so finished the final bore size on the stub axles and started to set up the pigs head for boring to take the heavy wall tubing.
