Nice one ...is the crossmember bolted in or are you checking alignment... igot a wc crossmember and mounts...but the mounts dont fit the pinto ...so they are either mixed pinto + crossfow or something else...i will cross that bridge when i get there..

looks like it will all fit...

I like the tie bar on the inner strut....does it tie in with the roll cage ..

    Hey Mate,

X-Member is bolted in using the Chassis rail sleeves so it bolted in no probs

The tie bar goes to the plate in the foot well and cross braced to the hoop.

Very nice...all coming together nicely..i have a problem with the strutt brace..there is no room to fix on the passenger side strut top because the velocity stacks from the engine are in the way...so been looking at alternatives ...may be come lower then up...

You could use the oval design or maybe move it further forward

Something like this could work too

Its wrinkle paint from VHT. The rocker cover was done in the same but it looks shit so will need to be done again. It's best baked in the over afterwards but last one I did ruined the oven for 2 weeks and the Mrs was not happy at all.....Lol

Has the roof vent turn up so here's a few pics. Mine is fiberglass not carbon as in the pic but same design

Exciting day with a disappointing end

Got the engine on the dyno and did the run in with everything going great.

The engine then hit a hole around 6,500 and power dropped off massively and we couldn't work it out. We tried engine timing, jetting changes, cam timing, new exhaust system even but nothing made an differences with different results happening on each run.

In the end it refused to start and after lots of head scratching the culprit ended up being the hall effect sensor in the dizzy so we packed up and hopefully we can get it sorted out on Tuesday.

We got 180hp out of it so far so that's a good start but there should be a bit more in it hopefully

Here's a few vids of the running in and then a power run. It reckon is sounds great

    Cheers

    Matt

Given the blue MK1 in the background I take it Warren is building your engine?

180hp is definitely a good start.

So, engine all done now. We got 188 out of it which is a great effort and I'm very happy with it

    Here's the print out

There's as few troughs in the graph but we can iron these put when we dyno it in the car

    Cheers

    Matt

    Dry Build continues

    Here's the g/box Xmember

    Gear Lever Surround

Threw the seats in to mock for the hydro handbrake. The pics don't show how low and far back the seats are. I'm 6'4" and I can just see over the steering wheel which is great. Love the driving position

Re: Matt's Mk 2 Grp 2 Zakspeed Replica

Bit of a milestone today. Car is on it's wheels for the first time today so we can mock up a few things

    Here's the roof vent

    Strengthening plates in engine bay

This shows how much we've chopped out of the front valance to give wheel clearance

Here's the plate made up for the Hydro Handbrake

Here's the box for the Brake Fluid Reservoirs. Its not centered as we are fitting the heater behind it

Fuel Tank in place but waiting for a bracket to be made. We'll put the filler hole on the side of the car even though we've filled in the original hole already

Here's the g/box Xmember. We might have issues with it and the exhaust so it may need modding

Here's the oil cooler mounted too

Re: Matt's Mk 2 Grp 2 Zakspeed Replica

We ended up modding the g/box Xmember as it interfered with the exhaust by putting an upward kink in it. As to the design Im not sure as I just pay the bills but the boys know what they are doing.

They usually build off road 4wd's so everything is usually over designed and braced.

    Cheers

    Quick update

Here's the battery tray welded in. Same design as the fuel tank

I really like the recessed section on the fender to site the battery cutoff switch so here's the one that got me thinking and our interpretation. I'll get more pics when it's all welded in

I've been thinking about fire protection systems. The guy building my car suggested that I look at Blazecut.

The video explains how it works

    Here's the box

It seems like a pretty elegant and cheap system to provide piece of mind

    Thanks for reading

Yes, i agree but it'd be good for under the dash to stop electrical fires too.
