    mk1 escort wiring looms

just finished making up a new comp loom for my mk1 essy. it's based on the original spec used by Borham in the late 60's early 70's and has the works style center console, passenger foot well fuse board and dash board pod including the smiths chronometric gauges, (nightmare to find).

Powered up first time and everything works perfectly.

As i spent many hours working on the design, I was going to offer it to others as a bare loom just made up of cables cut to length and labeled so that they can install it themselves and the cable lengths adjusted to suit and the ends soldered or crimped.

if anyones interested just let me know i can send you some more info pics specs etc.

i can also offer the loom as a finished item with fully soldered Lucas terminals and complete with quick release connectors allowing parts of the loom to be removed separately. ideal for the competition driven people out there.

just as a guide it is capable of running an alternator up to 150amps and 4 x 150w spot/fog and 150/130w head/dip bulbs.
all circuits are separately fused, and all cables are over-sized to prevent voltage drop meaning you get the full 14.4 volts at the bulb meaning brighter lights all round.

i couldn't believe just how bright the tail and stop lights were following at night it was like following a brand new Merc or BMW. amazing!

    Re: mk1 escort wiring looms

I recently made this Mk1 6-pod dash loom modded for use with a digital dash. I can easily make more to original spec, copying the original colour scheme with 12 pin connector and pins if people are interested.

Click image for larger version Name:	mk1-escort-dash-loom.jpg Views:	404 Size:	119.7 KB ID:	79011

I'm also experimenting with recreating the original engine loom including the 9 pin connector. What other wiring looms do people have demand for?

I modelled an original connector and 3D printed it. I can sort one out for you.

Thank you how much are you looking for?
I was thinking about drawing one in cad and cutting it on my cnc, if I could not source one. Also where did you buy the pins that you used with the connector?

Are you after just the connector or connector with loom also?

I examined the original pins and found compatible pins online (they very well could be the same pin but just using a newer design) as they fit perfectly.

Thanks for the reply I'm just after the connector if that's ok. I've got new gauges on the way and I'm going to mount them into a new fibreglass gauge pod. That's great news about the pins. Do you have a link?

    Thanks again

Yes I printed using my 3D printer and have tested using different plastic materials.

Sure thing I can sort you out a connector no problem. I have some pins left over to save you the hassle if you want, as I'd have to dig out the paperwork but IIRC they came from the US.

    Re: mk1 escort wiring looms

That would be awesome if you could, if you do ever come across the place you got them from it would be good to know incase. Let me know how much i owe you an ill paypal it to you.

Im currently sorting out the reverse light on the escort ive bought, I dont think the original builder linked up to the type 9's reverse switch so need to sort that. I had to try and salvage the type 9's elec speedo pick up as mines only got the electronic out put, but fingers crossed ive managed to solder some wires to the original sensor.

    Thanks again

Apologies I didn't reply, I haven't been able to access TurboSport for the past week or so, not sure if the site was having issues or it was something my end.

I believe its the same round 12-pin connector, but not all 12 pins are populated on both the 2 dial and 6 dials. There might be a pin or two difference, 2 dial will have oil pressure switch when 6 dial won't etc.

I've not seen a 2 dial plug in real life, but from online pics and based on how the wiring diagrams look they are the same connector.. 99% sure.
