    A Post Repair

Tin worm has been busy on the passenger side A Panel and managed to eat through the hinge panel that is welded to it. Having looked I cannot find a replacement hinge panel so will have to repair in situ. What gauge is the material for the thicker hinge panel sandwiched in the middle.

    Thanks
    Simon

Kind of guess at about 16 guage. I'll check for you in the next few days when I can get round the garage and find my sheet guage... Mines apart like that at the moment...

Rob, are you going to support pillar in situ i will get some photos up tonight of the state of mine as I was thinking of cutting minimum material from the surrounding structure to support the hinge plate then replace the outer A panel and inner jamb

    thanks for the info
    cheers

Yea I have actually. I wasnt really convinced it needed it tbh...
But I did just incase something moved...
I have plenty of spare dexion so I welded in a bit between the inner
sill and the windscreen A pillar, and between that and the inner jamb too.
You could add a piece of something between the sill and transmission tunnel
if you want to aswell if you wanted to.

    Re: A Post Repair

Just doing mine at moment - my n/s post is pissing in the wind at the moment and well beyond repair so going to have a go at fabricating a new one later this week.
The main hinge post is 1.5mm on mine.
I will start my thread up later this week with lots of pics as I have cut the whole floor out including bulkhead , inner wings the lot
I will let you know how I get on with post - if its not to drastic to make I will do and extra one if you like

Peanut are you planning on replicating the swages in the hinge post or just an open channel, I need to remove the outer skin yet to assess if I can stitch in plates or completely replace as repair parts do not seem to exist fo rthe hinge plate

Going to try and match it as close as I can - open channel is a cop out (but would be sufficient I suppose)

This is the state of mine

No they dont.. They do the outer and the inner panel, but not the middle panel with the hinge plates on it....

Don't know why, would be a easy panel for them to do - and I bet theirs plenty of people who need them

    Me especially

Had a measure with my sheet guage and I was right...
Mine does measure 16 guage, 1.63mm on my sheet guage...

Not that I think .13 of a mm would make any difference....

Your quiet right rallyrob 16g is the correct dims, I did check with my vernier gauge but couldn't get a true reading as mine are such a state
1.5 will do me as I can get it for free

    Re: A Post Repair

I have just re-built my inner hinge pillar by building up and grinding back weld. Thankfully mine was only pitted... What surprised me though was how rotten the outer pillar was under the scuttle corner. I wasn't going to remove the scuttle corner but took the plunge to allow me to replace the whole pillar - glad I did as the outer pillar was BADLY rotten under the scuttle but well hidden! A bit scary when you see others who simply repair the visible bit of the pillar and not necessarily check what state it is hidden under the scuttle...
