    Chain tensioner mod

Just carrying this out I have it all assembled and fitted as per racelines instructions however they said there should be a 3.5mm gap between the guide and physical stop but I have a lot more maybe 6-7mm it also doesn't look like the photo on this site

    This is mine

obviously I can push the guide back by hand but turning the engine over only moves the guide in and out but about a mm any advice mines a 2.0

    Re: Chain tensioner mod

New chain or old chain? Obviously new will be tighter / less slack / closer to hard stop?
Is the chain slack - if not the tensioner is doing its job. As I don't know Duratech's - does the tensioner just rely on a spring or does it have a ratchet to take up any resultant slack and stop backing off?

Hi old chain nice and tight the tensioner has a spring as well as oil pressure maybe a new chain then should be fitted?

You need to wind out the bolt then lock the k nut to get the correct clearance as per my picture

Yeah thanks that's where I was looking obviously thier gap is no where near either of ours part of me wants to get a new chain and whack it in but also if it's stretched a bit it prob won't stretch anymore and the new one would anyway so it might be better to set it all up as it is

If your engine was a high mileage then go for a new chain and quides good piece of mind

    Re: Chain tensioner mod

For the cost of a new chain and guides I'd get them, it's a little bugbear of mine people spending thousands on an engine and then taking the risk of an old chain/belt breaking.

I know somewhere you have to draw a line and that I probably change my belts and chains more often than I need to but it's a small price for me to pay for piece of mind

That looks a bit better cheers chaps just have to dial in the cams now which is proving a bit tricky due to needing extensions for the dial gauge I tried the coat hanger mod! But it all was a bit wobbly so it gave random readings will have another. Go this week

    Re: Chain tensioner mod

Had another go with the dial gauge I think they are setup correctly but can someone confirm that when all timed up afterwards the timing bar won't fit in on the back of the camshafts anymore it seems to be the inlet can that's slightly further forward now?

performance cams rarely time up exactly as per std, so i wouldnt expect the bar to fit

Cheers I did think they might not but just wanted some confirmation from someone who's done it as I found it quite tricky to do getting everything to be repeatable

Nice, I would agree with graham that the bar won't fit. if you've set it up and checked it using a dti you'll be good

    Re: Chain tensioner mod

Rechecked it all again and they do line up still just to clear that up in case someone mucks it up from my post just waiting on a new front crank seal as the one I bought from euros pushed through to the back of the casing when I put true pulley on which was a bit of a pisser as it cost about £20 orders one from burtons and then it's all built up just needs alternator kit exhaust and inlet going to try to use the standard alternator with a different regulator to save a bit of money a few people have done this but no one lists the regulator they used so it's going to be a bit tricky
