s2 major smoke and start problem when warm

i have just been looking at buying a s2 rs turbo off my mate that needs a bit of work doin but i am unsure of the problems it has, he said that the turbo is makin a funny noise which i think maybe the bearings as it has been starved of oil or something, any way when it starts it just bellows out smoke, is this the turbo that needs replacing? also he says he has had a new cam and tappits etc and that the oil light flickers on, i take it the oil pump needs replacing? also once it is warm it will not start, it sort of tries to but wont go, what could this be, i want to buy it but dont want to find it needs serious endless money spending to cure problem after problem, any hel appreciated cheers

only guessin but it sounds like the oil pump, and also it being cabbaged has made all the other oil starvation problems, normally the pick up in the sump blocks and starves every thing of oil, by the sounds of this one your probs(only guessing mind) gonna need a doner engine,, you can test oil pressure by removing the oil pressure switch and fixing a gauge to the hole,, good luck

CVH engines also had a problem with the starters overheating, and getting sticky. I had an Orion 16i which wouldn't start when hot. I put a shield between the starter and the exhaust, which cured it.
