fuel feed on 2.0l fuel rail

I have fitted a standered 2.0l fuel rail on my ST170 and just wanted to know what direction the fuel feeds!
does it feed into the regulator first then into the rail or does fuel return threw the regulator?

feels like a simple question but cant seem to find it on google!

the regulator is in the return side of the circuit

That makes sense, guessing it opens up to release fuel at a certain pressure. Thank you
