    Mk1 Escort front Set up

    Hi,

can an anybody help me with some information on what's the best set up to go with on my Mk1 Escort. Ill be fitting a cosworth engine with bubble arches. The car will be mainly used on Tarmac and I'd like to keep the car reasonably low if possible.
I have a set of front struts which I'd like to convert to coilovers. I also have cast Hubs and original steering arms. I was told they came of a 1300 model but when I measured the steering arm hole centres on the strut they are 76mm which I'm told isn't right if they are of a 1300?? I'm having them shot blasted tonight so I can post some pictures tomorrow. I don't want to waste my time or money if they are no good.

Thanks for any help or advise.

I run the following as pretty proven combination
capri 2.8i struts mine have new thinner wall tubes to fit Koni Rx7 double adjustable inserts and the tube is welded as low as possible inthe knuckle
Compression struts, I have lengthened my struts to suit more caster and probably too far back welded brackets
alloy hubs +10 width big bearings.
adjustable spring platforms 300pound 8-10 inch springs
adjustable strut tops with solid bushings.
    Adjustable Track control arms.
16 or 18mm front sway bar with solid drop links
2.4 quick rack with solid rack mounts and rack end lengtheners

and because who doesn't like photos

Decent front coilovers, twincam anti-rollbar along with correct brackets (it sits further back) Adjustable TCA's and top mounts will get you an excellent setup without spending a small fortune.

Unless you are into some serious track work, there is no point doing anymore than this.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I need to purchase the 2.8i struts and sell the ones I have. Can anyone recommend any good contacts at reasonable prices?
Jpblue I'm loving the pictures mate. Those discs and Calipers look awesome. My shell came out of shot blast last week and is being etch primed now ready to be converted into a GRP4.

Sorry one more question I'm Guessing the Bigger bearing in the alloy hubs will take more punishment? And the cast ones I have also need to be sold?
I'll post some pictures in a bit of what I have. Hopefully the night shift have shot blasted them.

Again, bigger bearings designed for the punishment of rallying, but if you are running bubble arches with big offset wheels then Grp4 hubs will give you a better offset to work with.

As regards the front struts it's a mixed bag of what you may end up with... Remember you are talking about 30-40 year old struts if you are buying second hand, sometimes a false economy unless of course you are as handy as jpblue (which hats off looks amazing)
