    What's this bolt hole for?

As above it doesn't screw into the block but it seems threaded and seems to be an opening into the chain area more of interest than anything else

Thru this hole you should be able to lock the chain slider.

To swap the cams without removing side cover, first you should be able to unlock the chain tensioner (thru bolt hole). Once you raise the tooth on tensioner, with a spanner you turn (couple of degrees) the exh. cam clock vise. Once slider is moved backwards you can now pin it (lock it) thru that hole and hole on the chain slider.

    Hope it helps.
